In the baking heat and on a whim we decided to pop into the museum and were greeted by a lovely tour guide. It’s an interesting and insightful tour in a place that is genuinely interesting and well thought out. We also loved the cafe, which is well worth a visit. Friendly staff made it really special. Well worth including on a visit to Lisbon.

Amalia Rodrigues is well known outside of Portugal, but somehow we do not know much about her. Of course, such museums tend to add to the cult of a person, but my guide answered my questions very professionally and I feel I have a much better understanding of Amalia R‘s personality and why she was so important for Fado - not only her voce, but her own composing of fado music to poems of famous Portugues poets.

It is a very Special place with lively, original atmosphere of a Fado Singer .

I would recommand people who are interested in Fado singer's life to visit !

It has Amalia personal belongings in well keeping conditional - including stage dressing, causal dressing , 200+ pairs of shoses and her collections of antiques , paintings and home furnitures.
As a lady , it is a big joy to see the 40+ pairs shinning earrings on the display window :D to understand the taste of a Singing star !

Form the documentary pictures of Amelia , i think it is the easiest way to understand a singer's colorful life ! i am appreciated , they put the paintings. artworks from the Fans, school students on the wall when you go down the stairs. It makes the house so lively !

The guides are very informative , except they can tell the information about Amalia's career, concerts, personal relationships with different persons etc.

My experience is, the guide talk about the three years Amalia stay in Japan,
Japan government returns 300+ cherry tree seeds to Portugal :) and how does Amalia become representatives of Fado music ,her world tour etc.

Of course there are different ways, people would like to know about Amalia.
Just visit there :) you would have a suprise :)

If you are willing to have more interaction with them, they even can tell about historical topics about Lisbon liked 1755 earthquake, their country !

It makes my Friday morning ! i am very happy about the visit !

* you can say hello to the still living parrot from Amalia in the nice tiny garden :) i get a nice respond from him he makes some short musical phrase :D

One of the best places to visit in Lisbon for people who listened to Amalia fado. This museum is actually her house where she lived until she died in 1999. It was such a moving visit everything looked left in place. The lady who received us lived 40 yrs near Amalia and she shared so many facts with us. I could come visit this place again anytime.

It was very interesting to visit this old house where Amalia Rodriguez used to live. It shows most of the house, many of her jewelry and personal things. The kitchen was very interesting with her still alive parrot. At the entrance we hesitated about entering or not. It seemed too expensive for such a museum. It is 6 euro for adults, 2,50 for children. They told us they would let children for free as it was the day before xmas. So we paid 2 adults, one student(3,50) and nothing for 2 small children. The visit is approximately 20-30 min with a guide. It gives you an idea about the singer, her influences on fado music and how she became a diva for Portuguese. There is a small garden and a cafeteria at the back. The toilets were very clean. There’s also a gift stuff that you can buy including her cds. Taking photos are not allowed.
