“Great monuments, great pastries”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 March 2012

Belém is a great place to spend a few hours visiting the World Heritage monuments (the Torre de Belém and the Mosteiro dos Jerónimos, which are both superb buildings), the river bank with the Padrão dos Descobrimentos, as well as the numerous restaurants and, last but not least, the Antiga Confeitaria de Belém, with the wonderful pastéis de Belém

“Relax and Stroll along the Coast”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 February 2012

The must do is of course the Pasteis de Nata! Really great pastry although it's always busy. Don't queue for take away though, walk straight in, deep into the heart of the shop. There are plenty of tables and the homemade hot chocolate is also heavenly. Other than that, take a walk down the coast to see the Tower and just chill.

“Very nice area”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 February 2012

All the area is worth visiting. The Jeronimo monastery is very nice and the castle by the sea beautiful. Plus the discovery monument by the river.

“Nice trip 30 mins from Lisbon”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 February 2012

We visited in February so was quiet and we had time to explore the old "castle". Think it was about 7 euros pp. good views and reasonably well preserved. However it's pretty small and I imagine the place would be heaving in peak season. Tourist trap kiosks and snack bars surround it. Avoid their high prices and walk 10 minutes to Belem centre instead

“Wonderful place to spend a day sightseeing”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 February 2012

Head to Belem for a day of sightseeing, eating and drinking! The Monastery, Maritime museum, Presidential Palace, Discovery Monument and Tower of Belem are all within walking distance. Stop by the pastry shop for some famous Belem Cakes (only 1.05 Euros) and then go next door for a meal of fish stew and draft beer. Afterward, walk through the park or take a stroll by the river. The 28 bus will take you back to downtown Lisbon when you are ready.
