We chose this apartment because we wanted some outside space. From the street the apartment building is nothing to look at but the actual apartment is DOWN six small flights of stairs - two floors and is at the back of the building, only one level up from the gardens of the street behind. It is therefore very quiet and in Lisbon this is important. It is a very light, bright space. The area is very good for Pastilarias and food shops with some excellent authentic family run eateries at good prices. The streets are cobbled as are the uneven pavements and it’s quite a steep area. From Intendente station it would be a struggle with large suitcases but taxis are cheap.
The lounge, kitchen and dining area are open plan. There is a hallway and off that is a spacious bathroom with a large walk in shower. The bedroom is an OK size. The location of the building is on a noisy and busy street with the tram stop not many metres away. The wi-fi connection is excellent. We didn’t meet the owner Pedro but we texted him. We arrived by bicycle and we were met by the cleaner who hadn’t quite finished cleaning.
The bed is only a small double and we didn’t find it comfortable. There is no wardrobe in the bedroom, it is in the hallway. The toilet didn’t flush properly. The shower was good and the hot water on demand.
We didn’t use the patio much as the weather was quite cold while we were there. We had booked five nights. It was a good place to dry washing!
In the building next door they were doing renovations so we had heavy drilling from 7am and other noise from that work. We thought the kitchen was dirty and the fridge and cupboards were not clean either. We had to wash absolutely everything we used before we used it. There was even lipstick on the glasses, the cereal bowls had dried cereal on them. It needs a total and proper thorough clean. Clearly, the cleaning is surface only and nowhere near as thorough as we are used to in other apartments we have rented in Portugal. Having salt and pepper and some essentials (a couple of coffee capsules would have been a nice gesture to start us off) is nice to have but everyone else’s half leftovers left in cupboards and fridge was off putting. We were kindly left a bottle of wine as a gift on a tray with two really dirty glasses. This aspect spoilt the experience for us. We left a day earlier than booked so we could visit Sintra.
Very impressed with this flat. Plenty of space inside and large terrace outside. It was clean and smart with good kitchen and bathroom with a great shower. It is also close to the tram stop and shops. You can easily walk to the old town too. Pedro answered all our questions. It is a great place to relax after walking around Lisbon which is very up and down. The walk from the metro is up a hill. Local shops and restaurants less costly than in the tourist centre.
The apartment as a whole was comfortable and well within walking distance to restaurants, markets, attractions. We could not use the patio as much as we would have liked due to the weather. We did use the barbecue one night. The bed was hot as there was a rubberized sheet covering the mattress, which was unfortunate, otherwise it would have been very comfortable. The patio door to the outside from the bedroom didn't lock . The cleaning lady that met us to give the keys asked us to pay a VAT tax, which we did not expect. It was €1.00 per person per day.
I would very much recommend this flat for a trip in the city! Pedro was friendly and efficient to deal with during the booking process. The apartment is in great location,it is comfortable and clean .wi fi working well, happy about everything!
