Description: The Il Gallo d'Oro is the gourmet restaurant belonging to the five-star hotel The Cliff Bay [Funchal, Island of Madeira, Portugal] Since 2004 the cuisine has been under the guidance of French Chef Benoît Sinthon. In 2009, Il Gallo d'Oro was awarded the first Michelin star on Madeira, an award which has been renewed yearly until 2017, year in which the restaurant is distinguished with 2 Michelin Stars. The sophistication of the Iberian and Mediterranean cuisine that has resulted combines regional products with top-quality ingredients from other regions on the Iberian Peninsular. The wine list, which boasts more than 300 top wines, was distinguished in 2013 by coming in second place in the National Wine Lists Competition. Vegetables, fruit, aromatic herbs and flowers from the region highlight the key role fresh produce plays in his cuisine combined with high quality products from various other regions of the Iberian Peninsular.we recommend use of jacket or tie for gentlemen. Opening times: From Monday to Saturday from 19.00 to 22.00

Ok this will be too expensive for many but if you can afford it the quality is really top class and the two Michelin stars are no exaggeration of its stature. The wine pairings are good and the pourings generous so you might be unable to finish them all if having lots of courses

2 Michelin stars says everything! Absolutely great food and when paired with wines for each course (4 to 6) is enhanced even more.A delight to dine here with wonderful knowledgible staff.

Went there with parents and fiancée. A dining experience like no other on Madeira Island. We have been coming to Madeira for 10 years and foolishly this was the first time we had tried il gallo d’oro. By far the best restaurant I have been to on the island. We had the 8 course tasting menu. Every course was delicious and beautifully prepared. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the setting was wonderful. It is expensive with our bill being €1000 with food, wine and tip but as a one off treat I would return there whenever possible! I couldn’t recommend it more highly!

We stayed at the Cliff Bay Hotel and ate at this Michelin Star restaurant on the Friday evening of our stay. We have been here before on previous stays and since the last time the restaurant has gained a second star. We selected a six course taster menu with the wine journey. The dishes were excellently presented and provided a superb tasting experience. Service was impeccable. The chef Benoit Sinthon also came to our table to talk to us about our experience which was a nice touch. We felt that it was well worth the money and would recommend this as a highlight of a stay at the Cliff Bay.
