This is the second time we have stayed at the Mimosa on All inclusive through TUI. We knew exactly what to expect for the hotel and location, and were really delighted to be given our requested room and a bottle of Madeira wine on arrival...nice that loyalty is so appreciated!
The location is great, very easy to get around on local buses (which we did a lot) also lovely walks down to Lido & up along Levada behind hotel. It is set on a steep slope, so it keeps you fit, like everything in Madeira! People who complain about this should do their research before booking! We knew what to expect and were happy.
The staff are very friendly and helpful, they do their best for you. The whole hotel and our room was spotless, always kept clean. Yes it is an older style hotel, and so some things are a little tired, however the room was very quiet & spacious and had everything we needed.
The food and drinks All Inclusive arrangement on Thomson/First Choice's website infers there is more choice of bars & restaurants to use in the complex than there actually is for TUI All Inclusive...however, we knew this as it was our second visit, and the incorrect description is TUI's fault, not the hotel's! We again found that the variety and quality of both food & drinks was very good, always refreshed and replenished, and the staff and chef keen to satisfy their guests requests. People who complain about the food & drinks, need to recognise this is a 3 star hotel...if you want more, pay more, especially in Madeira!
The outside pool area and garden terrace are beautiful, and the indoor pool very nice too..again all kept spotless by an attendant.
All in all a fantastic stay and good value for money. We will definitely return to this hotel to explore more of Madeira in the near future! It's perfect for us!

Room Tip: High floor for views...east over Funchal town & harbour and morning sun, west for coast & af...

Relaxing because we didn't hire a car for the first time ever. We relied upon local buses, taxis and did tours. As to the hotel, we found nothing to really complain about. Our room, on the 11th floor had wonderful views over the bay and we made good use of lovely weather on the small but adequate balcony. There were a couple of issues in our bathroom - the floppy shower head and poor flow from the sink tap, but these were relatively minor. The kitchenette was a boon, and thanks to the mini market at the bottom of the (steep) hill supplied us with the necessary for stocking the fridge; ie milk, water and wine. What more did we need?
We found the food to be of good quality, always fresh and hot when it should be, with plenty of salad choices. To us, the lack of chips was a real bonus, and I enjoyed the many different fish choices. We were not on an all-inclusive booking but did a 3 day dinner meal plan (excluding drinks) to complement visits to local restaurants, which worked well, although make sure reception has all the details correctly identified! Breakfasts were again good and plentiful. Pool towels are available from reception which few people seemed to realise. There was entertainment of some description every evening, and the wifi was free and reasonably fast in the main lounge area. All the staff were very pleasant and helpful, particularly the maids. We really enjoyed our stay at the hotel and on beautiful Madeira.

We were FirstChoice guests staying as a couple during Easter week. The hotel is part of a three hotel complex. Only Mimosa offers all-inclusive. It is an 11 story hotel with excellent views over Funchal or the sea. Very clean. The rooms are simple but nice. They have a TV with quite a bit of English content (plus other languages). Ours had an integrated kitchenette and fridge. Most of the staff are courteous and hard working. The food is good but with limited choice. For example – no pizza, often no potato/chips. No ice cream (it is in a locked cabinet)! There are two bars, one of which isn’t used! The drinks list for all-inclusive is quite limited: no cocktails – odd because FirstChoice explicitly mentions them in their advertising. The bar staff were not friendly and could be downright grumpy.

There are two pools: an outdoor one and a heated indoor-pool with jacuzzi and sauna. There is also a gym. Wi-Fi is available in the reception and bars and is free and quite good. The site is on a steep slope but steep slopes and hills are common in Madeira. The hotel is located about a five minute walk from the sea and attractive lido area. There are no beaches (on Madeira). The centre of Funchal can be walked to in less than 30-minutes and is well worth several visits. There are also buses and taxis.

No ice-cream or cocktails. They have them – you have to pay (extra).

Thank you for your positive review of our Hotel Mimosa, which is very accurate. Indeed our all inclusive program does not offer cocktails, and ice cream is only available at snack time at the bar by the pool. We hope that you enjoyed your stay with us and will be returning soon!

We had a fantastic holiday in this lovely hotel. Our room was on the 11th floor with a really lovely sea view balconyas well as over the whole complex .
The room was very clean and tidy with excellent facilities, our room was cleaned everyday
The roof top terrace on the 11th floor was amazing with the sun there all day and the most amazing view over Funchal.
We felt that this holiday was extremely good value for money.
The food was excellent with a varied menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The staff were really friendly and welcoming in all areas of the hotel, reception, resturant, bar and room service.
There were a few staff members who offered exceptional customer service.
In particular Aleno and Tobias from the terrace bar and Tatiania from restaurant.
The only bad experience we had throughout our stay there was with a member of the management staff, Mr George.
Mr George was present in the restaurant at the weekend of our stay.
In his presence the staff appeared very uncomfortable and stressed, which is somewhat understandable to a certain extent, when a manager is present.
We, along with many other diners, were unfortunate to experience a very unpleasant situation between this man and a young waitress.
The waitress was on her own ,serving many busy tables and doing her best to please customers.
Mr George began shouting in a loud, angry and aggresive manner at the waitress, reducing her to tears in the middle of a busy restaurant.
The waitress in question may not have been doing her work to his expectation, but she was working hard, being friendly and helpful to the customers, which is what is expected of good customer service.
If this man had an issue with her work, he should have acted like a manager, taken her aside and spoken to her in private.
How does he expect to have staff trained properly if he, as a manager, doesnt show respect to them?
This was the one and only let down at this hotel and is such a pity that it was due to someone at management level.
He could learn lots of people skills from the lovely staff at this hotel.

Room Tip: 1106 offers amazing views

my room had a balkong with very beautiful view. unfortunately my bed had noise when I was moving from one side to the other side!
breakfast was very good and the personals in the resturants had a very friendly behaviour. Room had no internet, it was bad and good! bad since we had no access to the internet when we were in the room, but it was good since we had to go to the reception,s area for free wifi and meet the people or watching the intertainments at nights!

Room Tip: rooms towards ocean and pool.

This hotell is nice and clean with seawiew from the balcony. The outdoorpool is not heated so around Christmas we could not use it. The pool indoors is small but they also have a jaqusi. The breakfast is pretty good with different sorts of bread, cheese, ham, jam, fruit etc. The hotell is situated in the Lido-area, only a 20 minutes walk from Funchal.

We got a fantastic deal here less than £600 for two, all inclusive, with transfers and baggage included. This was via Thomson.
We had read all the previous reviews so we knew what we were getting, but it still surprised us with the overall holiday.
We asked and got a room with a view (10006) and what a view right over Funchal and the Atlantic! Magic by day and night. The sun went off the balcony by early afternoon but by going up one floor you could access the roof terrace way into the evening.
The room was large, having a kitchenette and a bathroom with an actual bath. The room was cleaned every day, the staff were, apart from one barman in the terrace bar, friendly and helpful. The food was fine for most tastes, well cooked but a bit limited in choice compared with some hotels. I was impressed when arriving near the end of breakfast that the staff were topping up the food trays, rather than let them run out. Be warned however that the bacon (which i loved) is fatty and cut very thin. This appears to be the way in Madeira.
The beds were very comfortable but as with all concrete framed, tile floored hotels it can be a bit noisy.
It is quite a walk up from the road to this hotel so it could be an issue for those with poor mobility.
All in all a great holiday and a fabulous price. Would definitely consider here again, especially a room at floor 9 or 10.

Room Tip: Choose high floor levels for the great views
