Frescoes in the ceilings, elabrate wainscoting and art nouveau furniture, crystal chandeliers, the whole place is like a movie set. We stayed in the Royal Suite, which had several antique dressing tables and cupboards, a huge antique armoire, a small refrigerator and a kettle. There is a metro stop 900 m away, Bolhao (next to the market) that takes you straight to the airport on line E.
I enjoyed Porto, and this hotel helped. We stayed in one of the newer rooms, and it was lovely. I must say, the beds were some of the most comfortable I've had in a hotel and sheets as good as home (I spent a lot of time there- see below). Breakfast is in the older part of the Inn, and you dine in a room with crystal chandeliers. Breakfast was plentiful and tasty. Unfortunately, I fell ill in Porto, but was very comfortable in our room. Or as comfortable as one can be while sick in an unfamiliar place. It is rather isolated, but there are shops up the street, as well as metro stops both up and down the street about a five minute walk either way. My only complaint (and if I could do 4.5 stars, would - but not worth going down a star) was that we arrived Christmas day, hungry after a bus ride from Lisbon (trains on strike) and the reception had no suggestions for a place to obtain anything to eat. Despite having a bar listed on the webpage, no sustenance could be provided, even at a cost.
The hotel was built as castle in the past, it even has a small church built with cute garden.
The staff is nice and helpful.
The breakfast is okay but the concept of the room where you eat is nice, there is a cute cat in the room also.
The room that we stayed was higher than standard with modern design.
The location is not far from the center, we managed by walking.

I was given a room that was like a chic little house separate from the main building, I wanted to stay longer. The shower was like my dream shower, it had a shower head, then a rain shower overhead, then multiple water jets. Also, I love the cat! I got a surprise when I found the cat in reception. What a special hotel!
The breakfast was fine for me, hot drinks are available from the machine - the hot chocolate was perfect! I also had cake at breakfast, there was a variety of bread, jam, butter and some other pastries. The reception staff were always present and kind.
The location is a bonus. In a few minutes I could walk into the busy city area so I could visit the shops. But since it was not directly in the centre, it was totally quiet and I could not hear any traffic at night. I slept excellently!

Great hotel, great staff. This old private mansion has been transformed into a georgous hotel : one side, the authentic one is worth every euro spent there. The modern side is, well, modern, not intresting at all...
The breakfast room is faboulous and the kitty very nice !
Did I mention the terrass and the garden, worth every second spent there !
The whole staff, from reception to breakfast speaks English and most of them speak French.
The breakfast is great. The staff is knowledgeable, considerate and helpful. Six of us in three modern family garden rooms. it is a lovely quiet location. It is a little over a mile walk down to the cathedral district. Taxis are readily available for return up to hotel. A block up there are restaurants and a great bakery.
