Lovely spacious flat in the Center of Porto. Carlos was waiting for us and was extremely helpful. He suggested places to visit and transport info.
We recently stayed at Wine Apartments for 3 nights and enjoyed it very much. Carlos, the owner, met us when we arrived and showed us around the apartment and then gave us some good info about the immediate area. He was very friendly and helpful.
The apartment is located in a square at the end of a major pedestrian street that leads from Sao Bento train station. The street is lined with shops, cafes, restaurants, etc. Within easy walking distance you can find just about anything you might need. By walking 5 to 10 minutes, you will be in the heart of the Ribeira and the Douro riverfront.
The apartment was a nice size with a well-equipped kitchen with stove, fridge, oven, clothes washer, etc. There were floor-to-ceiling windows that opened over a narrow balcony overlooking the square below. Closing the windows cut off the street noise and closing the wooden doors to the windows helped even more. However, street noise can be a factor as street peddler musicians set up on the street and play. It wasn't a factor the first night, but on the next two nights some woman "singer" was up the street singing and playing to amplified voice and guitar. The bad part was that she was awful - could not sing to save her life. I always travel with ear plugs so I shut her out. If you want to sleep at 9 or 10 pm this can be a factor if you don't have ear plugs since she went beyond 11 PM. That being said, I would stay here again because of the location, the apartment, and the atmosphere.
Close to river, shops, bars, and restaurants. Good size apartment with everything you need. Carlos was there to meet us from our shuttle bus and was very helpful with local knowledge. Would definitely stay again
A fantastic apartment situated in a great location in a very busy square in historic Porto with lots of restaurants, cafes and bars nearby. It’s very clean and spacious with a lovely living room opening on to a narrow balcony where you can look over at the busy life passing by. We had super sleeps, in a very comfy bed with nice linen.
As other reviewers have mentioned it is quite noisy at night, but for us that was part of the charm as it has lots of ambience with street performers, music etc and great for people watching whilst enjoying a drink at one of the cafes. If you want peace and quiet and go to bed at 10pm, then this is not the place for you. But if you want heaps of atmosphere and to be at the centre of Porto life, this is the place for you!
I would definitely recommend this apartment highly. And the welcome by Carlos is as good as everyone says - warm, friendly, informative and some very handy tips too.
This apartment is located in a great part of Porto with excellent restaurants and it is in easy walking distance to all the sights.
Just two minutes walk to the Douro River up a side street; you really feel like you are living with the locals. Manuela was there to meet us and extremely helpful. The apartment is excellent with a small garden for supping the odd glass of wine.
Carlos was right there to meet us on arrival. Prior to that, he was so helpful in providing transportation info...apartment was awesome. W/D in the unit, spacious living room with sectional. Clean! Can't go wrong here folks...
