I stayed twice in June, 2015. The first time was for a conference, then my wife joined me for some traveling in Portugal (highly recommended!) and when we got back to Porto, we stayed at the Douro since I had enjoyed it so much. She enjoyed it, too. It is a bit on the modest side: not the center of town (unless you are going to the Casa da Musica!), but Porto is relatively small and well connected, so that does not matter much. The breakfast, too, is modest: this is not one of those places where you eat a massive breakfast which lasts until evening. The location is very pleasant and calm, the neighborhood is friendly, many small dinner places with friendly owners, and the staff at the hotel are very helpful and considerate. We even left some things behind which they very quickly sent along. This is a small enough hotel that this was done personally by one of the women at the reception desk who had already been quite helpful to us while we were swill there. They do lots of calling ahead for you, navigating reservations and Portuguese when you can't get by. The price, too, is very reasonable. All in all, a good deal which we would definitely take again.More
