We moved to Das Artes the second night of our Porto stay, when the first hotel had no vacancy. We found an excellent price via one of the Trip Advisor partner sites and chose this hotel because it seemed within reasonable proximity to historic Porto. If you like to explore a city on foot, this is easy walking distance. It took us 20 minutes to walk to Avenida dos Aliados, a major pedestrian hub of the old city.

The hotel has an outdoor, off-street parking lot with extremely tight parking, including getting in and out. Be sure your car insurance is paid up. Parking was 12 Euros per night.

If you'll need breakfast provided, it's much more economical to buy it in advance when reserving the room online. We saw 10 Euros extra for two people, as opposed to 12 Euros each at check-in.

We reserved a non-smoking room and were assigned a smoking room in the back building. The room reeked when we opened the door, and we immediately went back to the lobby to get the problem corrected. We then ended up with a nicer, larger room in the front building, which was also a more convenient location. We didn't have to drag luggage as far.

The non-tobacco rooms are in the front overlooking Rua du Rosario. They have small balconies overlooking the road. But they're also noisy. We heard cats howling all night, dogs barking at them, and people whooping and yelling at the neighborhood pubs. Our room was near the elevator, so we also heard hall noise at 3:30 a.m. both nights.

The room was equipped with sun-blocking curtains so, once we finally got to sleep, we slept well into the morning. The housekeeping staff was quiet.

The TV had several English language stations, but reception kept blipping in and out. Kind of like it was linked to a poor internet connection.

The room was furnished with a computer desk that had enough space for two people to set up laptops simultaneously. We had an extra chair brought to the room so we could both check email and post vacation pix online. Unfortunately that didn't happen. The free wi-fi was unbearably slow during the entire 2-day stay. Sometimes we couldn't access the internet at all. Totally frustrating.

The room did have lots of storage, including a large closet with several shelves, eight hangers, and two bedside stands. The bathroom had a shelf to store all your toiletries and supplies off the countertop. There was a large wooden luggage shelf and plenty of floor space in foyer to store suitcases well out of the way.

The lighting was adequate, as were electrical outlets. The room had a safe, hair dryer, towel racks, clothing hooks, three wall mirrors. There was also a small mirror attached to the bathroom wall adjacent to the large mirror, which would have been useful for styling hair. But it was mounted incorrectly, so you couldn't see at all.

The king bed was lovely, but a bit too firm. Four pillows were provided, so you could get comfortable.

Towels were large and thick. Toiletries provided were Herbas de Ibiza shampoo, shower gel, body lotion, tissues. No conditioner though, which seems to be a common omission in 4-star Iberia hotels.

The bathtub was superb, with a normal faucet instead of a hand held sprayer. Water pressure was good. Everything was spotless clean and well maintained.

There was no clock in the room, so we never knew what time it was without pulling out a phone.

The mini bar was well stocked with beverages, but no snacks except Pringles.

We toured Porto both days until late into the evening so, unfortunately, didn't have time to try the spa. Prices appeared very reasonable. There is no room service, but a laundry service is offered. There is no fitness center or pool.

Staff was friendly and quite helpful. They drew us a map and pointed us in the right direction for walking to historic Porto one day and for finding our way to the hop-on, hop-off tour bus the next.

Because we got such a good rate booking online, I felt our money was well spent, even with the 12 Euros parking fee. But had we paid the full rate, I would not have been as satisfied.

Room Tip: For quiet, avoid rooms facing the street. And stay as far away from the elevator as possible.

staff couldn't be friendlier or more helpful, everyone was really pleasant, breakfast was buffet style and topped up right until the last minute, good variety of fresh food, nicely presented, fab variety of drinks, lovely bright breakfast room, pity not a restaurant :(, Hotel was in easy access of cafe's, shops, mini market and not too far from city centre, would definitely stay here again, housekeepers were really lovely, cheerful and friendly and super efficient, they really do seem to have got it right at this Hotel .....

Room Tip: This hotel is in an ordinary street so no real views.....

We had a very large room and bed. Very clean and with air conditioning. Buffet breakfast had a good spread. Very good bathroom. Well located - within walking distance of most places of interest. Room a little dark in the evening.

It's have stayed here a number of times while on business trips. It's consistently clean and the staff are very friendly and helpful. It's not a 4* hotel really - more 3.5 stars - but, it's terrific value for money and ideally located. It's the sort of place where you'd be happy for 2 or 3 nights.
The wifi is fine, if a bit slow, and breakfast is good. The bar is soulless, except when the weather is good and it transforms into a decked terrace.
The rooms can be noisy (caused by ubiquitous veneer flooring) and the beds are on the firm side; some might find them too firm.
I'd definitely recommend it for a weekend visit.

Located a short walk from the centre of town this is a pleasant hotel which delivers a good service. The desk and bar staff were particularly helpful. Very reasonably priced for a modern, light and airy hotel. Breakfasts were reasonable but unremarkable. It was particularly useful to have a laptop and printed in the lobby.
