Tucked away next to a ringroad and the hospital, this is a great way to get to one of 'the' views of Portugal. It costs €3 for a one way trip which lasts about 5 minutes. The carriage holds about 12 people. Allegedly, the longest funicular in the land. If you enjoyed it, try the one in Oporto.

We only took it down after taking a taxi up. It was definitely worth the money, but sadly there's no view on the way.

This is the best way to ascend Monte de Santa Luzia, the basilica and the Poussada. for a fare of 2 euro or 3 for a return, you can ascend or descend the hill. This is a funicular railway that runs about every 15 minutes up to 8pm and stops for lunch.

Nice little ride up well worth the €3 return trip. Shame the main building was covered in scaffolding. But worth it just for the views.

Worth a trip. A little cheap entertainment for young children - throw in an educational science lesson and everyone is happy.

Not much to see on the way up but the views once there are great.

Santa Luzia was being renovated (externally) when we visited and there was lots of work underway around the church. I am sure it will be great when finished. The church inside was finished and was stunning.
