Went here by city bus #20 or 22 for $ 1.50pp, from the Market Street Bus depot. Chairs to rent or sit on the beach for free. A little dip to get in and clear water down to your toes. The next restaurant will have drinks, lunch and clean restrooms. We would have taken a taxi back to the ships for $8 pp but our waitress said to just wait by the street and flag down the mini bus back to town.

Quite a difficult beach to find by car. The main entrance is gated and closes at dusk. A beach café provides the facilities required. There is an alternative car park at the south end of the beach. Valley Church Beach is very pretty, but rather narrow. In many places the sand is not wide enough to lay a towel without fear of the gentle waves getting it. Swimming is safe.

We went out of the secure cruise ship area, walked 2 blocks to Market St, turned right and walked a few blocks. When we got to the fork in the road, went to the right (at the Burger King and the flag pole) and there was the West Bus Station. We got onto the #22 bus. The bus driver seemed to recognizie where we wanted to go and told us when we arrived at Valley Church Beach. We exited the bus and paid our $1.50 fare (each). We weren't quite sure where the beach was, but a van full of white folks turned down the dirt road, so we figured that was the way! It was maybe 100 yards to the start of this lovely beach.
Very nice beach. It's a private beach with chairs ($5) and umbrellas ($10) to rent. Also jet skis and catamaran. Nice little tiki bar, snack bar, WIFI, nice toilets and changing room. Shower was inoperative. Don;t expect any snorkeling and the shore drop off is pretty quick. Was fairly crowded with 3 ships in port, but was not a problem. We spent all morning there.
There were lots of taxi options for the trip back, but we walked back to the bus stop and caught the bus going back the way we had come from (another $1.50). Was fun to ride with the locals. Just beware that they drive on the left so be careful when crossing the street!

Full of vendors annoying the hell out of people. Cheap tourism from cruise ships loud music , very crowded. It's a shame....you can rent chairs and umbrellas. Definitely not a nice quiet place

I was so anxious to try several beaches during my 1 day in Antigua however this was the only beach I made it to. I was told it was one of the best and not to bother with the rest. So I can't compare it to the others but for me it did not disappoint. The day we were there our driver told us the water wasn't as clear as it normally is due to rain. Although it was slightly cloudy, the beach was still beautiful. We didn't see any fish but there are a lot of seashells for collecting if that's something of interest. The people were a little pushy and seemed upset we didn't want to rent chairs or umbrellas but they left us alone after a few attempts. There is a small bar and food area and a few local vendors but not too much going on here, which for us was perfect for a quiet afternoon on the beach.
