“Very good hotel in the heart of Athens”
Reviewed 4 August 2011

Very nice hotel at reasonable rates right in the middle of things.
My room had view to the Acropolis and a balcony with table and chairs.
Room was comfortable and clean. The location is the BEST for sightseeing and shopping.
Staff was always available and helpful.

Room Tip: The higher the better view

Nice hotel maybe in the best location.
Rooms are nice and comfortable we had one on the 3rd floor and it had great view to the Acropolis so I guess higher up you would get even better view.
Breakfast served on the roof top at an extra 5 euro but well worth it.
Staff is available 24 hours and are very helpfull.

Perfect for a night or 2 in Athens before heading to the islands. We had a large balcony with a great view of the Acropolis. Grab a gyro from the restaurant next door.

Our family of 4 (teenage daughter & son) stayed here in a quad for 2 nights. We made our reservation with some trepidation, due to the mixed reviews on tripadvisor, but our experience was altogether positive; we were very pleased with the hotel and would definitely stay there again.

The location of the hotel is fantastic. It's right in the heart of things - a 5 minute walk to Syntagma; a 15 minute walk to the entrance to the Acropolis. It's across from a nice square with a large church. There are Acropolis view from many of the rooms and from the rooftop patio where breakfast is served.

The hotel was clean and well maintained. The bathroom was almost laughably small, but was adequate to our needs.

The desk was always staffed and the staff was always pleasant and helpful.

We ate breakfast each day on the rooftop patio. The breakfast wasn't cheap (5 Euros, each) for a family of 4, but it was convenient and the setting was great. Breakfast consisted of coffee/tea/chocolate, juice, a boiled egg, toast, a muffin, and a yogurt with honey. We did not go away hungry.

When planning for our visit to Athens, I knew we wanted to stay in the Plaka area.
I read mixed reviews on it and was hesitant to book but took a chance and booked it at 60 Euro, or about $85 per night.

I am so glad we did!
This place was fantastic!
What we liked:
Friendly and helpful staff.
Location--Near shops, restaurants, and transportation. It was about a 5 minute walk to Syntagma Square and about 5 minutes to the Plaka.
The views of the Acropolis from our room.

I can't really think of anything negative, except maybe that the bathroom was small.
The front desk area and lift were tight also.

If you need a high-end type of hotel, like a Hilton, then you will not like this place.

I cannot recommend this hotel enough!
We will definitely stay here again if we return to Athens!

Room Tip: Room 52 for the great views!

We stayed at the Hotel Metropolis for one night on our way to the Islands.

We stayed in room 11 on the first floor. It has a queen bed and a single bed, as well as private bathroom and small balcony. The room also had air-conditioning, a television and free wifi.

The room was simple and clean - perfect for our short stay in Athens.

The hotel is open 24 hours a day so there is always someone there to greet you. The staff were helpful with directions and good places to visit and eat etc.

The hotel is located a short distance from Syntagma Square where both buses and trains leave from, and also close walking distance to Plaka and the Acropolis.

On a recent trip to Greece we were staying in Athens for a few days before flying to Corfu for a week and after researching hotels in the area the two girlfriends I would be sharing sleep space with for a few days decided to book at Hotel Metropolis because of the close proximity it provided to The Plaka. The Plaka surrounds the Ancient City of Agora and is a mere 5 minutes walk to the Acropolis and tons of tavernas catering to tourists from all over the world.

I really don’t understand the expectations some reviewers must have had traveling to Athens and staying in this area. I thought it was a great little hotel and it certainly met our needs.

We stayed in Room 32, which doesn’t boast much of a view but DOES have a private bathroom, which we wouldn’t have done without. Three women? Traveling from the States? Me - with a 17 hour flight? The idea of sharing a communal bathroom is not one that crossed my mind.

And ok, so the bathroom “shower” was a little awkward. We constantly ended up soaking the floor in water because the shower is really nothing more than a 3 x 3 tiled spot on the floor with a one inch catchall and drain… but who cares? The plumbing works so this bohemian was fine with it.

We had three twin beds, a pretty big armoire, and sure – a TV (who goes on holiday in GREECE to hang out in a room and watch TV?!?) and we had a cute balcony.

The hotel staff was very friendly. Maybe because we are, too, and we weren’t staying there expecting the Hilton. We knew it was a little hotel in the heart of the Plaka with the right price so we could spend our money taking a couple of day tours out of Athens and enjoying the culture. Our wake up calls were always on time and our room was cleaned daily, which we weren't even expecting.

I WOULD recommend this hotel to anyone who plans to use it merely as a place to leave a bag and rest their head so they can explore a beautiful city, ages deep in history and archaeological beauty.

PS The view of the Acropolis at night from the rooftop is breathtaking, regardless of normal city construction.

PPS The taverna next door has the best pita bread I ate in Athens and the FRIENDLIEST staff!
