My stay in Amalthia was a pleasant surprise.

Upgraded services, good breakfast with fresh orange juice and very clean rooms.

The beach with its wicker umbrellas was great, clean and this made the difference from the neighbors.

I recommend this resort and will be back soon

Breakfast- The breakfast was a little gross, the hot dogs gave me heartburn the whole time and the eggs were watery and runny. However, they do have options for cereal or yogurt so you can't go wrong with that.

Honestly - my oppinion is to try out Agios Nikolaos area, or the quiet areas surround Heraklion. I found it to be so much more beautiful with nicer hotels and a much nicer city as well. This hotel is really more like a budget hotel...I was disappointed and I'll never go back there again nor would I recommend it to anyone.

For the second year in a row we visited this hotel. Actually it is not a real hotel, on this complex are mostly appartments with garden or balcony. The breakfast (buffet) is included, and just fine. The rooms are cleaned daily, and the staff is very helpfull. The rooms are comfortable with a modern design. You can walk to several restaurants nearby in Agia Marina. But a better option is to go by bus (busstop within 100 meters) to Chania, or rent a scooter for a few days. The swimming pool (with sunbeds) is okay but you can also choose to go to the beach which is directly at the hotel.

Stayed in Amalthia 3 years ago. Came back this year due to the location (the best sandy beach in Chania) and found a "new" Amalthia. It was completely renovated last year and offers great comfort. I recommend it to everyone

We originally stayed at this resort 5years ago and the rooms at that time definitely needed upgrading. The recent refurbishment did not dissapoint ...great improvement. Situated right on the beach.

Efficient airconditioning unit, modern bathroom, double bed suitably comfortable. Rooms cleaned daily. Resort requires you deposit WC paper in bin rather than down the toilet, this did not cause us any problems and is common to the island. Breakfast satisfactory. No beach towels so take your own.

Resort 's treasure is its fabulous taverna, informal in the day, yet in the evening with the addition of fresh flowers and candlelight tranform to a more romantic setting yet maintaining its informality. It is situated adjacent to the pool area, (so great to keep an eye on little ones whilst taking refereshments ) it is also right on the beach front It is owned and run independantly, the food is of a high standard and reasonably priced, service is very friendly and efficient. This quality is validated by the amount of local Cretan' s who patronise and hold birthday parties. Nice beach area cleaned and groomed daily. You have to pay seperately for the beach sunloungers 8eruos for two per day. (common to the area). The beach becomes alive toward the end of the day with may locals desending and music playing from adjacent hotel. 15min walk into the hub of Platanias. Smallish resort and the best thing we did not encounter many brits and certainly no ill mannered or badly behaved ones! Would definitely recommend and consider staying again next year.

We stayed in Amathia for one week in the beginning of July 2008. The hotel was in superb condition and modern (see the photos) and the room was cleaned daily. Only complaint is that the beds were quite hard. Air conditioning costs ~7 €/day and the safe in your room 15 €/week. Breakfast is ok but the same every day.

The poolside with free sun beds and the restaurant/beach bar was lovely and the food was good. The place was also popular among the locals. Also the restaurant right next to this one was really good.

The Agia Marina beach is a clean beach with fine sand. 2 sun beds + a chair + shade cost 8 €/day. Young locals gather to a nearby bar on the beach on some evenings and the music can get loud, but they close the beach bar early (around 8 PM).

Agia Marina wasn't that big of a place so there's not much to do, if you're looking for activities or night life. But for a relaxing getaway it does the job.

  • Liked — It was modern and clean
