“Enjoy the birds around the salt pans ”

Reviewed April 4, 2018 via mobile

Very little of the ancient town can now be seen but several areas show the outline of buildings but the whole area is quite shallow and many varieties of bird can be enjoyed

A little bit of history - not exploited and worth a walk from Elounda. See the sunken walls ( although from the Roman era I think) or the ancient early Christian church - not the standing church, but the ruins which are up the lane behind the restaurant, about 75 yards away

And no information which was a shame. Found the mosaic floor by accident and the church was closed. Nice bar there for a drink with a great view of Elounda

There is a sunken city near Elounda. It called Olous. The place is nice, you can see walls of the ancient city, if you want you dive and enjoy all the treasures into the water. It seem to me this place doesn`t suit for little children. If you want to dive and snorkle this is the right place.
There is a little church near here.

Walk over the bridge past the salt pans on the right, when you get to the windmills go right, through the fish restaurant, and take thesmall path to the right of it to the Pre Christian Basilica and mosaics then visit the church. Go back to the path and take the very scenic route to the beach visiting another small church on the way. Great to avoid 12-3.00 when motor boats bring swimmers, it can get very busy.
