Wow! What an amazing place to stay. If you want 5 star luxury and everything just so don’t visit. But if you want uniqueness, history and friendly hosts this is the place for you. On arrival we were greeted by the owner who showed us to our room, a beautiful stone house complete with fireplace. The walls were all stone, a large double bed as well as sofa, fridge and tea and coffee making facilities. The bathroom was fine and there was air conditioning. He gave us a brief history of the place and also a leaflet explaining it all as well. It has its own amphitheater. The hotel was bed and breakfast and we asked for recommendations for an evening mealand the local campsite restaurant 300 metres away was suggested. It was lovely, fresh squid and a table overlooking the sea. After a good nights sleep, we had a traditional Greek breakfast on the terrace overlooking the sea and mountains. The owners wife was so friendly and kept telling us to eat as much as we wanted. We bought a bottle of their homemade cherry liqueur to sample as well. As for the town of Nea kavali, not that impressed but we travelled to keramoti about half an hour away for a wonderful day on a peaceful beach. I would tell everyone to visit this hotel, to enjoy a really unique experience! Thank you to the owners for a lovely stay!!

You see The location and unique architectural setting only at the day of arrival!
As soon as you stay overnight;
a) wild mosquitos leave deep marks on the skin & what a itchy symptoms
b)Sleeping on a stone hard beds gives you back pain, even if you have Japanese futon experience!
At the reception the owner, ask you to pay the full amount as soon as you step in due to the fact that if you leave for the said reasons earlier than planned he will not get affected but you.
I have to stop writing because it still itches like crazy even after the medical treatment .
Good luck!

Room tip: If ever existing a "Mosquito free"with "normal bed"room ?

We stayed three nights at this delightful place. The staff are wonderfully hospitable. The breakfast was delicious and served in a lovely special house with a balcony overlooking the sea. The room was like staying in an authentic byzantine house (but with modern plumbing and electricity of course). The beds were comfortable and the location nice and quiet. It was worth staying here, outside of Kavala, in the village of Nea Kavali. This is a village that was settled by Greeks from Cappadiocia (Turkey) as refugees in the 1920's. It was not difficult to get to Kavala and Philippi from here. The hotel is a reconstruction of a byzantine village that was here for many centuries but destroyed in World War I. They have done a beautiful job with it and you feel like you are staying in a real little village. The most amazing thing is they actually have a shrine with the real relics of Saint Mammes, from the 3rd century AD which the community brought from Cappadocia. How many hotels have relics? The manager also invited us to their church and a special event at the local Cappadocian museum which was really nice. This is a truly special place. Of course the greeting dog, Jack, is special too. So grateful we found this place.

Akontisma is like nowhere else I have stayed. Set on the east side of Nea Kavala near the coast this place is collection of rustic stone clad buildings built on an ancient village setting with quiet courtyards adorned with plant pots bushes and trees. It even has it's own little church, acropolis and amphitheatre. It's a tranquil location to get away from it. The resort has a real laid back feel to it where the owners Kaplanis and his wife Vasso do everything they can to make you welcome and your stay a pleasant one. 'Jackinossos' the dog also wanders around saying hello to everyone. It's not a five star hotel but it deserves a 5/5 rating as it's so peaceful, oozing character and totally unique you really should try this place out if you are in this part of Greece.
It's an 8-9k drive to Kavala and is about a 20 minute drive from Philippi the archaeological site. It's only 30 mins from Keramoti with its beautiful beach. Akontisma'a rooms have stone clad walls and floors with thick rugs and traditional furniture, artwork and fireplaces which you can use, radiators and aircon. We had a balcony and a private courtyard to sit out in as well. Bathrooms are clean and have all you need in them. My wife was annoyed that the shower door did not shut properly and a plug on the wall was loose but that was it.
Breakfast is an optional extra for 5 euros per person and is laid on in another stone building and on an umbrella'd rooftop with the sea a short distance away. The good is traditional with as much tea juice and coffee as you want. Vasso was full of stories and chat in the mornings.
There is car parking on site and wifi covering the apartments.
This place is unique it has a couple of rough edges to it but that makes it. Real traditional a Greek feel to it all and run so passionately by the owners. Such a fantastic find, do not hesitate to book this place.

Amazing place, like a middle age village.
The rooms are small or large indépendant appartements.
The" owner" is charming.
The atmosphere is amazing.
I recommend it.
It is opened all year. Some appartements have their own fire place.
