We just walked around for a few hours in this picturesque Old Town district of Xanthi. There is much to see, cafes, bars, restaurants, churches, building and nice narrow streets. If you around or on your way for another destination it is certainly worth making a stop over.

This old town is as close you can get to an experience of the multicultural society that was the Ottomans'. Turks and Greeks living together in perfect peace in this provincial town that has so many enjoyable places, streets, mansions and is rich in natural colours. Take your time (at least) for a walk and a coffee in one of the elegant kafeneioi.

We were at Xanthi for the carnival and we walked in and around the Old Town. It was night but crowdy with the people ready for the parties. There were a lot of joy and a lots of places to eat and drink. But Xanthi Old Town is amazing with its very interesting old buildings.

It's the part of the city built a century ago, when Xanthi started creating an urban character due to the tobacco commerce. Most of the houses are in good condition and those renovated are in exceptionally good shape. It is a pity that cars are allowed in this part of the city, but it's fair for the inhabitants that could not do otherwise. When in Xanthi, do go for a morning walk

Walk in the narrow streets of the old town and travel back in time. Even now when the time of tobacco passed away this town keep the memories those days alive everywhere.
