“Comfortable hotel in excellent location”
Reviewed 5 June 2012

The location is this hotel's greatest strength - all the major sights are within walking distance and the bars/restaurants of Nyhavn are at the end of the road. The hotel is in a converted warehouse, and has a lot of charm.

Having read reviews saying the rooms were small, we booked a deluxe room and were upgraded to a harbour view room on the 5th floor. We were pleasantly surprised at the spaciousness of both the bedroom and bathroom. The view was great too.

Our rate didn't include breakfast, but there are lots of options nearby. Would highly recommend this hotel.

The Admiral is located close to all of Copehagen's major sites and close to its mile long shopping street Stroget so it ideall suited for tourists such as us. Rooms are compact so make sure you compensate by booking one with a view across the harbour and down to the schooners moored directly outside the hotel. Our room was clean, tidy and have everything we wanted apart from robes. The bathroom is small and the room very narrow so take care edging around the bed. For a short break we could not complain. Breakfast is good although very busy whilst we were there resulting in queues to simply get a table. Plenty of choice - fruits, breads, meats, cooked food, cereal - everything you could possibly want to get the day off to a good start. Public areas are again compact - the bar is tiny and service is essentially stand at the bar and wait. Food in the bar area is fine but limited. There are probably more stylish, more spacious hotels in the city but here is a fully functioning hotel that does what it says on the tin.

Room Tip: Book a harbour view room and upgrade to one with more space.

This hotel has the wow factor! Converted from a 18th century warehouse, this historic hotel is an imposing and distinctive building in a wonderful location overlooking the harbour. Full of atmosphere with its wooden beams and brick arches, it successfully mixes the old with the new and has a modern light décor in the restaurant, bar and lobby.

My room was clean, comfortable and full of character with its wooden beams and modern furnishings. It would have been nice to have had tea/coffee making facilities in the room. Breakfast had a good choice of cereals, fruit, pastries, meats, cheese, fish etc. Reception and waiting staff were friendly and efficient.

The centre of Copenhagen with all its attractions is close by – the hotel is next to the Royal Palace, round the corner from Nyhavn’s old harbour with its restaurants and bars and 10 minutes walk to the little mermaid! It is easily accessible from the airport – 15 minutes by the metro and then a 10 minute walk albeit over cobbled streets. I highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Try to book a room overlooking the harbour with its views of the opera house and waterfront.

Nice spacious room, bathroom a little old but very clean, bathtube. Very close to the Nyhavn where I totally disadvise to get any meal there!! The only pity is that they left towels only for one person at the room and be carefull with your booking if you already prepaid because in our case that hadn't been registered!!

Whilst I don't want to give the wrong impression I did enjoy my 10 night stay in the Admiral I just found some very annoying things about the hotel that could simply be rectified.
1. The WiFi can not be accessed from everywhere in the hotel. It was extremely frustrating having to go down to the lobby every time I wanted to work on my laptop.
2. Single beds in the room. Comfortable but for a big man not a great fit.
3. No Gym or Laundry Facilities.
4. Noisy.

Now for the good things about the Hotel.
1. Location, very close to Nyhaven and many restaurants.
2. Always a Taxi available out front.
3. Breakfast, great Scandanavian treats.
4. The restaurant and lobby bar.

With some minor improvements, an excellent choice in CPH

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Next door to royal residence Amalienborg Palace and just a short walk from Nyhavn, this imposing 200-year-old former granary warehouse is one of the largest hotels in the city, with 366 rooms - but don't let that put you off. It may not be boutique but big can definitely be beautiful. Beyond the two cast iron canons at the entrance is a neon-pink bar (great for a pre-dinner tipple), while guests retire to rooms showing off classic Danish touches such as teak furniture, low ceilings and original wooden beams. Best of all are the panoramas across the water towards the city's shiny Opera House and Christiania: a view fit for royalty. ... more   less
