My wife and I and our two children spent a few days in Copenhagen in November 2009. We stayed two nights at this hotel. The hotel location is right in the middle of the most commonly photographed and scenic tourist area in Copenhagen. The area is simply delightful. It is within walking distance of the Royal Danish Theatre, a metro station, Amalienborg Palace, and many other sites. The hotel is an older hotel with unique idiosyncrasies. You must walk up stairs from street level to reach the hotel lobby, so avoid this hotel if you are handicap. If you need help hauling your bags up the stairs, just ask at the front desk and they will send someone down to carry your bags. The elevator to the rooms is very tiny, so if you have a lot of luggage or several people, you will need to take multiple trips in the elevator to get everything and everyone to your room.

We chose our room because it had four beds, and was one of the few locations in Copenhagen where we could all stay without paying for two rooms. The hotel rate was reasonable for Copenhagen, which is normally very expensive. The room itself was large by Copenhagen standards. The bathroom was unique, as it did not have a separate shower. Instead you pull a shower curtain around a corner of the floor. As a result, the water from the shower runs all over the floor. The sink is just a basin with no adjoining counter space, so if you need to do your make-up, hair, etc. it is difficult to find a place to set your things. The bathroom set-up is the worst part of this hotel experience, and if it wasn't for the good price, great location, great breakfast, and friendly staff, I would have rated this hotel lower for that reason alone.

Our corner room overlooked Nyhavn, which was a very pleasant view, especially at night. We could open our windows and connect with Nyhaven. I do not recall being affected by the street noise while we slept.

The hotel served a complimentary breakfast, which was a traditional Danish breakfast of fruit, cheeses, meats, pastries, yogurt, etc. The breakfast was great.

The staff were friendly and welcoming, and everyone spoke English (as do most people in Copenhagen). This is not a five-star hotel, but a comfortable little boutique hotel that had its quirks. As long as you are willing to overlook the quirks and fully embrace the culture, the hotel will meet your needs. I would stay there again.

My friend and I stayed for 3 nights at the end of October. The Bethel's location is great and very easy to find.....just a few minutes walk from the Metro station which takes you to the airport in about 15 -
We walked everywhere - the National Museum is well worth a visit and I would recommend the Canal Boat tour (unfortunately the weather wasn't good but the trip was enjoyable anyway). We managed to find Christiania and that was certainly "different" - not for everyone but we had a great Falafel for about £4 which was the cheapest food we found all weekend!!!!
The restaurants opposite the hotel are expensive but we found a couple with set 3 course deals which were absolutely fine....also found the Scottish bar most enjoyable (the food we had there was good too.
The Bethel hotel is old and the rooms are a bit basic but perfectly acceptable. Wasn't too keen o the shower arrangement but the room was clean, all the staff were lovely and very helpful and the breakfast was adequate. One big plus was the free tea and coffee all day (with free Daish pastries if you're lucky)
All in all I would defintely recommend theBethel tof anyone looking for a decent place to stay in a VERY expensive city.

Room Tip: The corner rooms have the best view of Nyhavn but are more expensive.

If you are looking for a reasonably priced hotel in a very expensive city then this is the answer. The rooms are basic but do have everything you would need for a city break. As it was my partner’s birthday I requested a room with a view and on arrival was given a nice room at the front of the hotel overlooking the iconic buildings in Nyhavn.

We had two single beds pushed together with clean linen. The central heating was great especially as the weather was cold and we had a good flat screen TV with plenty of channels - many in English. The bathroom was large and had a good quality power shower, hairdryer and bath and hand towels each.

The room was light and had two large windows in the bedroom and one large window in the bathroom.

There's plenty of choice for breakfast - fruit juices and hot drinks with breads, meats and pastries etc. - the usual European fayre. The hot drinks are available free of charge 24 hours a day which is a nice touch.

What makes the difference here is the staff who are extremely friendly (appears to be a family business) and cannot do enough to help you with your holiday / break. They are on hand 24 hours a day.

True - the hotel is not contemporary / modern or has the little touches of a large hotel chain and there may be some road noise but if you have come to Copenhagen to sit in your hotel all day and pay over the odds for the privilege enjoying peace and quiet then book an expensive hotel in the country!

If you want a well-run hotel in an excellent location for a reasonable price with that personal touch then this is the once for you!

Room Tip: Pre-request a room with a view

This hotel reminds me of a Youthhostel: the rooms are basic, though there is a television and free internet access. There is poor insulation - you hear sounds from the corridors, and from the backyard, where they pick up trash early in the morning.
Breakfast is also basic: cereals, coffee, some cheese and cold cuts.
The staff is friendly and helpful, there is someone in reception around the clock.
The location is great, right in the middle of Nyhavn, near the Metro at Kongens Nytorv.
I liked the hotel, despite the poor insulation (I wish hotel guests would have enough imagination to realise others might be sleeping at one or two am - but being awakened by late home comers happily talking in loud voices can happen in any hotel).

Room Tip: Rooms adjacent to the court hear parking and garbage collecting, I presume rooms facing the street hear street noice - but have a nice view!

I too agree with some of the previous reviews. This is a great spot to base yourself in Copenhagen and the area (although previously the red light district as I learned) is just gorgeous. It is an easy walk from the Metro station and the tour bus and cruise boat stops are just down the street. The room was cozy and ok but the bathroom left a lot to be desired. With a not so great and rather small curtain (rather than a proper shower door) it was impossible to contain the water in there which left the floor slippery and ment I had to waste towels and I'm sorry to say the bed left a bit to be desired. On the plus side the free wifi is great and I was also able to use the computer in the reception area - for those that drink tea or coffee it was free. Breakfast was just ok.
