Unless you re really into military stuff, I probably would skip this museum. Having the Copenhagen Card fortunately let me drop in without a paying an entrance fee or I would have felt disappointed. I was amazed however at how many wars Denmark fought and how many times they ended up on the losing side.

The museum is also known as the Krigsmuseet or the Danish War Museum. It is over 2 levels. On the ground level there are 2 sections. The first is in relation to artillery, being cannons and early examples of 20th century artillery. The second part is a section dedicated to danish forces serving in Afghanistan. It is excellent. Shows their living quarters, interviews with children, military personnel, a vehicle impacted on by an IED and so on. On the second level there are examples of danish military from weapons to uniforms from 400 years ago to recent.

The museum is amazing and there is so much information and military items. It is interesting to walk through time with the different military items as you walk down the room downstairs.

Upstairs there is the navel section; included within this there are a few different outfits that are dotted around. Me and my boyfriend got a little giddy and both got dressed up!

Fun and educational, would recommend a visit.

This museum is terrific. Two large floors of military items. The ground level has cannons and artillery from ancient times to modern day.

The upstairs contains uniforms and swords as well as dioramas of Copenhagen and exhibits that discuss key battles and moments in Denmark's history.

Plan on 1-2 hours.
Admission is included in the Copenhagen card.

The museum consists of 2 floors. The first seemed to act more as a storage room for cannons than as a coherent display of weaponry, but the second floor was very well done. It’s one long floor where the exhibits are laid out in a timeline of danish war history. There are also a huge number of model ships and other artifacts. We spent easily a couple of hours on this floor alone.

If you like your military history this is a must. With lots of displays, uniforms, models and weapons/artillery pieces; it is easy to spend several hours here. As someone who spent 20 years in the British armed forces, I was hugely impressed with the ‘Distant War’ exhibition which features a mock up forward operating base from the conflict in Afghanistan. With incredible attention to detail it certainly brought back many memories. Excellent !!

Saw weapons from WWI and WWII as well as the 1800s. Not extensive exhibit, but found it interesting.

The ground floor is a traditional arsenal/ armoury museum with rows of cannon and guns with cannon balls in piles. There is a Afghanistan experience n the ground floor too- feels like a different museum and I suspect is not a long term part of the displays

Upstairs is a much more impressive series of cabinets and details - took so many photos!

Ran out of time here - wife and daughter turned up from Theatre Museum
Impressed

Note that this is an arsenal museum and is mostly cannons/artillery and uniforms. If you want to see vehicles or aircraft you will have to go elsewhere.

I liked the special Afghanistan exhibit where accommodation and facilities were recreated - it reminds us that despite all the technology available today, living in a war zone is still dirty business.

The shop is small and most books are naturally in Danish, but I was able to find a few good ones in English to buy. I spent about an hour there by myself - maybe half an hour more would have covered everything, but some things, such as some uniforms, I skipped.
