“very special place”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 January 2012

This is an exceptional hotel. While you are in the midst of Stockholm, it feels as if you are far away in the countryside. It is very quiet here. The rooms are huge and the bathrooms extremely stylish. The food is superb. I haven't had a better meal anywhere in Stockhholm. This place is a gem - a real find and worth the splurge.

Room Tip: I stayed in room 170 on the top floor with a spectacular view.

We travelled here and stayed for 3 nights in January 2012 after choosing the hotel on tripadvisor. This hotel deserves all the good reviews it gets. Located on a small island you feel as if you are a million miles from the city yet it is only a 10 minute walk and you are in the heart of Stockholm.
Breakfasts are amazing. All beautifully laid out with something for everyone. Also, served until 11.30 am at the weekend so if you fancied a lie in it would be no problem.
Rooms are tastefully decorated, minimalist in a trendy way with lovely bedlinen and bathrooms are lovely with an amazing shower and nice toiletries supplied. Our only criticism would be there should be tea/coffee making facilities in the room.
A real delight to find this hotel. The attention to detail is second to none with exceptional staff.
Book this - you will not be disappointed!

Room Tip: Ask for one with a view although ours was on the back and did not bother us as all are quiet.

It was nice to stay somewhere so calm and with the city close enough if you wanted it, The room we stayed in had a lovely view and was really clean. modern in style and i would personally prefer a more traditional feel to an old building such as this but it was very comfortable. Close to Museums and beautiful location. I Can imagine it is amazing to be there in the summer. The food was nice, The staff were really friendly, Great Breakfast!! would definitely stay again.

Freindly staff and nice historical buildings converted into a design hotel. The breakfast (included in room price) was excellent, with local high-class eco item from a buffet. Had a very good dining with the special for the evening - not in the meny - nice fish. This hotel gives you better value for money if you are able the half mile extra!

I read all the glowing reviews, I feel I must dissent. It is only a 10-15 min. walk over the bridge from the island which might be ok in summer. But when the weather isn't good, as is often in Stockholm, that 10 min walk across the open water can be bracing, as in OMG, especially at night after dinner. Cabs, even just a short distance into town, are invariably $25-30 US given the alternating one-way bridge and the construction just on the other side. While the hotel is in a pretty park-like setting, there are no conveniences except across the windblown bridge. You are at the mercy of the over-priced minibar. The nearest bank machine is quite a hike. As for the room, mine was relatively large with a lovely sea view, but unfortunately no comfortable place to sit and enjoy it. The two chairs are cute in a lilipulitian sort of way, possibly comfortable for those under 5 ft. tall. Not someplace to relax with a book or after walking all day. I consider the bed overly firm. Fortunately I had Advil, I needed it every morning. I like minimal, but it would have been nice to have someplace to put your suitcase except on the floor. Furnishings one step above Ikea. The wifi is intermittent at best and slow, although solved by asking for the cable connection. The DVD player did not work with US DVDs - Swedish TV and CNN can get tiring. All this said, the service is wonderful - friendly and helpful. It must be a wonderful place in the summer, I'd avoid it any other time.

Room Tip: It's best to pay extra for a larger room, from what I could see the smaller rooms are very small...

Dear Guest,
Thank you for your time to write this review!
Sorry to read that you felt our location a little bit isolated! We feel we are very lucky to be on this calm relaxing Island in the city centre, and if you want the city buzz its only a 10 minutes walk or you can take the bus or even better the charming ferries!
I agree the weather in Stockholm can be challenging and you need warm clothes if you want to walk around in our capital during winter season. As proud us Swedes are over IKEA I can assure you that our furniture is from the top European design houses. Sorry to hear you had problem with wifi, I have spoken to our technical department about this and it shall now be working fine. I hope you gave the many other free channels we have a chance and the Swedish ones have more English speaking programs and the are all with Swedish subtitles which is good for all our English speaking guest.
Really glad to hear your kind words about our service and I hope I will have the pleasure to welcome you to our green Island during summer.
Best,
Joachim Olausson

I love this hotel and have been back again and again. It's on a lovely island just a 5 or 10 minute walk from the heart of old Stockholm. It is also by the Baltic Sea with marvelous views on one side of Gamla Stan and the Vasa museum on the other. The hotel is an old barracks turned into a superb, elegant, warm and designer's dream hotel. Staying there is very cosy and comfortable. The rooms have wooden floors, white bed linen with a soft duvet. The bathrooms are well equipped and have the lastest design in basins. The breakfast is wonderful as is the food in general. The Skeppsholmen Hotel is like a home away from home. It is my favourite hotel in Stockholm and hope to stay there everytime I go.

You cannot find fault with this hotel. However, here is a tip about the rooms. The hotel is an elongated shape with some rooms in a different building and very far from the main part of the hotel. I always ask for a room above the dining room. That way you don't have to walk far from reception.
The only thing missing is a sauna, strange that they don't have one as most Swedish hotels do

A real gem in the center of Stockholm! Stylish rooms, friendly service and a great location. It was a great experience staying there and a lot more relaxed than at one of the more classic hotels in the center. Highly recommended, especially in the summer when the lush garden terrace can be enjoyed.
