Santa Claus Holiday Village is a set of cottages done in red and white, of course, with small kitchen area, seating, bed, and bath. It was all okay, just not great--a bit tired in decor, not really sparkling fresh, and the breakfast was, well...not great. I arrived early but couldn't check in until 4, so used the time to go into the city--quite a nice walk along the river there! All in all it was fine, but not too inspiring. Of course, this was construction season, as well, so I'm guessing it may be more magical in the winter.

First of all, we arrived at 8 in the morning, and the cabbin was not ready until 12. Because we didn't order early check-in. But the nice lady in the reception told us she was gonna try her best to have it ready as soon as they could. Meanwhile we could take a snack and some beverages in the restaurant. About 11.40 the cabin was ready. We drowe right up to the front door, on asphalt roads, unloaded kids and luggage. When we entered the cabin, it was pure luxery. Tiles on the bathroom, own private sauna, a huge comfy bed, a huge sofa-bed for the kids. Heavy red curtins and a small christmas ornament. Chandeliers made of reindeer horns. Spotlights. A lot of space in the bathroom.
But, thinking of the theme, Christmas, they should have followed up with plates, cups and glasses in the same style. And maybe put some gingerbread in the room insted of some bon-bons.

So, we slept a couple of hours after we've been driving all night. We then went to have fun right on the arctic circle, looked at souverniers and other shops. And then, we met Santa. And he spoke so friendly and convencing with the kids, in something close to norwegian. He was so nice. We got to choose some photos and options how to get them. We went for one large photo for 30 Euro (a bit expencive). After all this we went back to the restaurant for dinner. And I didn't hade my hopes up high, considering that Finnish cuisine have let me down more than once. But the food was really on top. Amazingly tender and tasty chicken, a verry good tomato soup. My daughter enjoyed her kids burger and my mrs loved her pasta (even it was a bit loaded with zuccini). And when we should pay, we got 10% discount (and that went for the gift shop and cafeteria to).
So after a most wonderfull dinner we went back to the cabin, heated the sauna to 40 degrees celsius (for the kids) took a shower, ssuna and put the kids to bed. Turned the sauna to 80 degrees and the adults relaxed about 30 minutes, cracked a cold beer on the terrace and had the best sleep in forever.
Breakfast next day was good. Not great, but still much better than we dared to hope for. The omelet is a bit tasteless, missed some bacon, fish and jam, but overall a nice breakfast. The staff are smiling, helpfull and most serviceminded.
I will really recomend this place for families with kids.

We looked and we looked as we entered the city from the north, and could not by our best find the main entrance of the village. Our navigator onboard gave us some tips, but we ended up in a blind alley where we could see the main building, but could not park or drive up there. We looked and took some chances on our own without the navigator and finally found the entrance. IN all, not very well marked the way to get to the village from where we came into the city at least.

There are no A/C as the cabins are meant for winterstay and not a hot Finnish summernight as we experienced when we visited there. It was 26 degrees at 20:00 in the evening when we arrived. There would be no need for a sauna, we vould use the combined living - sleeping room.
The cottages are nice, good space, bathroom and small kitchen. All to please us for a stay, but the heat was not what we expected - outside the sauna that is (which was working perfectly by the way).
First, the TV stopped working, and the personell could do nothing about it, as it was under repair by the local operator in the city. Secondly, the payment machine in the restaurant did not work, as the lightening the evening before had made it malfunction, payment in cash or travel into the city to get cash from the cashmachine, as there are no such in the village. Figure that out, would be easier to go to the city and eat at a restaurant and pay there with plastic.
Well, we made an arrangement after some back and forth and got our food, overcooked and, well, what can i say, not overly impressed at 110 Euros for three person family.
Overpriced reindeer and husky events, which turned us off immediately. The village was under construction, and the construction area was a main display in the entry area, not closed off (watch out - children) and it did not look nice to see a halfway finished buildling and material around with piles of dirt around, halfway done.. Well, they oculd have covered it with some curtain walls with some illustration of what is tom come to tease the visitors a bit )tips from disney world and lego land can be taken for them if they want to improve this part).
No information given aobut other sights and events in the city, loike the Satanapark and how to get there, the Zoo f.inst and bobsleigh in the skistadium area. And how to get there, little or no information at all. Not professional guides or ambassadors for Rovaniemi - no sir.
The village looks like a suvenir display area in the summerm booths full of gifts, shops overcrowded and not very xmas like at all, just like an over commercialized tourist area. NOT IMPRESSED.
What impressed my son and myself was the Santa i reception and in the Santa Office building, nicely done and organized. Very nice and time to talk and nice photos taken.

Sorry, will not be able to recommend this place for any of my friends or contacts here on Tripadvisor, but you will have to be your own judge and take the village trip yourself to be the judge. All i can do is to state. They nned to improve on their service and professionalism towards customers and to become better ambassadors to the santa concept to visitors to ensure a welcome back.

Room Tip: where you can park without ask your neighbor to move. Cottages in the lower area avoid traffic if you have kids and closer to playground.

We expected Rovaniemi to be a sleepy little town and planned a stay at Santa Claus Holiday Village towards the end of the tour to ensure our young kids went home with fond memories of Santa's official hometown! Boy, were we pleasantly surprised with the town and the whole experience! The Santa Claus Village itself is a complete destination!
Firstly the team, the hotel team I interacted with prior to arrival were efficient, prompt and polite in their correspondence. They gave the right information, made the right suggestions and also ensured that our requests and desires were totally met on arrival. Then the ladies at the Hotel reception as well as Riku and Chef Neea at the hotel restaurant were very helpful. Riku and Chef Neea though were outstanding stars. As were the two ladies who drove us to and from the Airport. Sorry, didn't note their names.

We booked two cottages on booking.com and informed the team prior to arrival. They made sure they allocated us a Duplex Cottage with a common entrance foyer and door. Each cottage has a large bed, a mini fridge, a sofa bed good enough for two kids, an excellent bathroom with built in Sauna, a kitchenette with two electric hobs, kitchen equipment and crockery. Just ideal with kids. Our family of six was very comfortable in two cottages.

Their is a Siberian Husky Farm and a Reindeer Farm on site to visit. Santa Park is a short taxi ride or walk away from the resort. Ranua Zoo is a 1 hour drive (90 km) from the resort. We went to the town and again Front Desk's recommendations were spot on! Thank you Prijor (sorry if I got your name wrong).

The shopping options on site for Artic Circle/ Lapland souvenirs are excellent. What surprised us the most was excellent clothing and shoe shopping options in the city! Good quality and great bargains!

Finally, we forgot somethings in the cottage and they were efficient and transparent enough to locate and pack these.

Make use of the complimentary Airport shuttle!

Strongly recommended!
