Beautiful place to stay within the National Park however do not expect to experience any Finnish culture!
Accommodation is basic, simple and sufficient. Food is fine served in a buffet. You stay here for the scenery and the great outdoors of which it is perfect foe

I stayed at the Oulanka basecamp, as part of the finish Wilderness week organised by Exodus, so therefore all the bookings and transfers were excellently organised - it is great because it is so quiet and peaceful ad a great place to get away from it all.

We were meet at the airport by the staff at the basecamp, and taken by bus to the basecamp and it is about 45 minutes.

All rooms are ensuite with excellent under floor heating with a temperature control if needed, showers were always hot, and plenty of water.

All equipment was provided - boots, skis, poles, snowshoes, plenty of warm clothing and gloves, hats.

There is a sauna which I did not use (forgot the costume) but is excellent and with a hot tub and this operates from 3 pm onwards.

Tried all the activities that were available on offer, from snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and dog sledging - we had a day in Juka.

Food was basic but filling (special diets are catered, but they must know in advance) and just what you needed after a day in the cold - plenty of opportunities to go as you
please

Staff were excellent and friendly

Spent new year here as part of an Exodus Winter wilderness trip, the whole experience was excellent from being picked up to being dropped off at Kuusamo airport, all transport was suitable for the trip, the rooms were great (underfloor heating) which mean all kit dried quickly, all the winter kit was supplied in w=hat ever sizes were required and was of good quality, the guiding for all activities was good and Martti had a great rapport with the group and the food was good local fare.

A great 1 week stay at Basecamp Oulanka. A genuine wilderness experience in the middle of the forest. Our leader, Piritta, was great, lots of local knowledge, stories and a love for the forest. Hot, tasty, wholesome food. We were sad to leave and want to go back in the future to see Oulanka in the summer.

Spent a week here at base camp
Oulanka with exodus travels over Xmas and New Year’s Eve. This was the perfect getaway you are in the middle of no where although approx 45 minutes from everywhere. I tried all of the activities on offer cross country skiing, snow shoeing, quinzee building, kick sledding, river floating, fat biking, snowmobiling, husky ride, sauna. The food was good and perfect for the activities. The staff were brilliant and excellent guides. Couldn’t recommend enough. 5 stars and 5 big thumbs up.
