I agree with all of the positive reviews on this hotel. There is free access to the internet so if you don't want to pay for Wifi, use this. I used their computer many times while I was there with no one around. I would equate this hotel with the Hampton Inn but with a better breakfast buffet and larger rooms. Yes, lots of shops around and I walked to the center of town in 15 mins.

Please check my other review on this hotel for the pros of this nice place....

What really made me agree in my last visit is that they started July 2011 to charge for Wifi - especially that a daily fee of 2,5 EUR is soooo rediculous in Finland where 2 EUR has a purchasung power of 0,5 EUR in middle-Europe. In other words: why do they charge such stupidly low fee for a service which is free in McDonalds and Starbucks around the world and also many pubs and restaurants offer now free Wifi?

As cable connection is for free my assumption that this is Finnish way to protest on the iphone sucess? "we want to get some money from iphone users"? Actually it also hits the Nokia smartphone users... rolling eyes...

Please Cumulus Hakaniemi Managment, let's forget about theses fees - you can start charging Sauna for 35 EUR (as it's in Spain) or Breakfast für 30 (as it is in Germany) - but leave the Wifi free and skip the 2,5 EUR - do you really needs these 2,5 EUR with rates above 150 EUR?

I find Cumulus hotel good enough to stay at, especially when being on a business trip. One of the huge advantages of the hotel is that it is near the center of Helsinki. You can walk to the central railway station in only 10-15 min. And if you do not feel like going for a walk or the weather conditions do not allow you can take the subway to the center. The entrance of Hakaniemi metro station is literally in front of Cumulus hotel's doors and the ride takes only 2 min! There is also a bus and tram stop in front of the hotel where a lot of lines go.
In front of the hotel there is a small square and there are a lot of restaurants, cafes and famouse fast food chains around. There are also a couple of supermarkets and all kinds of other stores near by. There is a Sokos department store a hundred meters away from the hotel.
What I really enjoy is that there is a small lake or a bay connected to the sea right behind the corner with a small park around it.
The hotel itself is a quiet place. My room was looking to an inner court and some administrative buildings - so there was nothing to see except for some offices. The rooms are quite spacious and equipped with all you need. There is also cable internet and wifi. The room had a fancy interior - a lot of colours that created the impression of cleaness but though I have some remarks.
The other common premises like the sauna and restaurant were OK but in my opinion not big enough.
The breakfast was a standard continental breakfast but not a various one. What I missed was the lox but anyway you will not be left starving.
Cumulus's staff was very helpful and friendly. The whole atmosphere of the hotel is welcoming.

The bus connection from the Vantaa Airport is very good. For only 4 € the bus stops in front of the hotel.
The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful, although there was a little problem with the computer at the reception so the check-in took about 20 min. But as a reward I got a coffee for free and a better room than I actually booked.
The few from the room is not very attractive, however it is the cleanest hotel room I've ever been to.
The breakfast is absolutely delicious! From cereals to bread, yogurt, vegetables and a lot more there is something for everyone.

I really can recommend this hotel! Go and stay with Cumulus Hakaniemi :)

Agree with all the good points made in other reviews. Great staff all speaking excellent English as did everyone in the restaurants, shops boats, trams, buses andeven ide-cream kiosk. The hotel wasvery quiet - you wold hardly know there was anyone else staying there until you join the breakfast buffet. The breakfast staff coped well with the peak and kept the buffet well stocked.

The hotel is right by the tram stops, bus stops (including the 615 to and from the airport) and even the metro. The boat to the zoo is nearby too (wonderful snow leopards!). Also worth a visit is the amusement park where there is a free ride for the best panorama view of the city . . . you have to pay though if you want to go on any of the other terrifying-looking rides! Be warned, though, that eating out or drinking in Helsinki may seriously harm your wallet.

Most unexpected sight in Helsinki was a full-blooded game of cricket going on in the park next to the botanical gardens (near to the hotel).

Another useful service in the hotel is the delayed checkout on a Sunday when, if you ask, you can delay leaving you room up to about 6pm which is grea tif you have a late flight and want to freshen up or change after another day's sight-seeing - and there is plenty to see.

A good value hotel located just outside of the centre of Helsinki. It's about a 15 minute walk to the centre (Senate Square) but there are great public transport links with several trams stopping right outside and the airport bus (number 615) also stops there. The hotel is newly fitted out inside, all looking very clean and fresh. The rooms are painted in bold colours with attractive art work. Comfortable beds with a choice of pillow. The bathroom was very clean and had a good shower and free toiletries. We had rooms at the back of the hotel and it was very quiet so good sleep quality.

Breakfast was a decent spread although mainly on the healthy side. Avoid the scrambled egg unless you like eating yellow egg flavoured jelly... It does get very busy at times however and they run out of cutlery, crockery, food and seats, so try to go down early.

Reception staff were very helpful and spoke perfect English. You can buy hot and cold drinks and snacks from the lobby and there is a computer with internet access available to guests. Late check out is available on a Sunday which is really convenient if you have a later flight booked. For other days there is a secure room in which to leave luggage.

Overall a very good hotel and I would happily stay here again.

This was our second stay in the Cumulus Hakaniemi and I'm happy to say we were just as pleased as our first stay.We paid €230 for 3 nights Fri-Monday. The staff are very friendly and polite. We checked in at 10am without any problems. We stayed in room 405. The room itself had twin beds which we pushed together, a desk, armchair and wall mounted tv. The bed was very comfortable which was great after being on our feet all day. Heavy curtains kept the room nice and dark in the morning. Our room looked onto the street which had some tram lines. I live in a city anyway so the noise did not bother me but the trams could be heard clearly in the room(our first stay we were in the back of the hotel and heard nothing)The bathroom is small but has a great walk in shower.
There is plenty to choose from for breakfast...much better selection than a lot of European hotels.
There are good transport connections directly outside the hotel..underground, trams and the airport bus also stops in front of the hotel. A 10-15 minute walk will have you in the heart of Helsinki. The photos of the rooms on the hotel website are exactly the same as what you get.
