Loved every minute of our time @ Glymur. Villa was well furnished and well maintained. Loved the shower (except the sulphur smell). If you go to Iceland stay here and get a villa. Cannot review the food as we did not eat here. Setting was amazing and what a way to relax in a geothermally heated hottub and watch the Nothern Lights.

We spent 2 nights in one of the villas in mid-February. The location and views are second to none and the villa was beautifully decorated and well equipped, although one of the bedroom's heating was a bit hit and miss. The satff were all extremely helpful and the food was of a good quality. We booked through a travel company and hadn't realised that the villas were indeed self-catering in the truest sense of the word- if you wanted the room cleaned or the beds made you had to pay extra. It was also a little disappointing that all the kitchen equipment was there, but no milk, sugar, tea or drinking water that you get in hotels. Overall though we would recommend.

My girlfriend and I have just returned from a weekend stay at the Hotel Glymur. We had the villa romance for a two night stay. We have never seen such a well designed villa before, gorgeous furnishings and very stylish. Nice views over the Whalefjord. Very well equipped kitchen area with everything you need and a coffee machine : )

Very comfy beds and a lovely shower room, shame there was no bath though. But outside there is a geo-thermally heated hot tub, which is always a perfect temp. overlooking the mountains and the fjord. Perfect sitting in the hot tub at night gazing at the starts with a glass of champagne. Unfortunately no Northern Lights this time.

You learn to get used to the smell of sulphur from the hot tub and the shower!

Very nicely decorated with some great artwork in the villa.

A hire car is needed to get about. I highly recommend a drive to the Snaefellsness peninsula, which is an all day trip, but well worth it. The area is called "mini-Iceland" as it contains a sneak preview of all the landscape from the rest of Iceland.

Hotel restaurants does good food. A bit over-priced for what you get, although we had a lovely lobster (which is what they call Langoustine in Iceland I believe) bisque. Very friendly service in the hotel, and were very very helpful.

It's a good location if you want to get away from it all and is only a 50min drive from Reykjavik. The nearest supermarket is in Akranes about 20mins drive away.

We loved it there an really did not want to leave. We are most definitely going to return in the future as two nights was not nearly enough.

I spent two nights in Hotel Glymur last weekend. I got one of the suites with a bath tub.
The stay was a ,,pleasant experience" as always. Being a experienced traveller, that has stayed in most all hotels in Iceland, I can say this one is among my favorites. The service is personal and friendly, and first class. Guests feel right at home, and trusted. (the bar is not locked during the night, the hotel trusts you to ,,help yourself" and write down what you got in ,,the book".
Over all this is a very good hotel, and fully worthy of the four stars it is rated.

Spent an amazing 4 nights of our honeymoon in the Villa Romance at Glymur. A warm welcome, scenery totally breathtaking, hot tub brilliant, villa, contemporary yet warm and cosy, spotlessly clean and fully equipped kitchen. We couldn't have asked for more and already want to go back. What could be better than sitting back in the hot tub, with champagne looking at the stars (and maybe even the northern lights) in the middle of winter?! We did a lot of our own cooking but did try the restaurant for breakfast and dinner when we first arrived - both lovely, restaurant perhaps a tiny bit pricey but couldn't fault the food or service. What an amazing place to escape to! Perfect.

Right from the start the staff at Hotel Glymur made us feel very welcome. We arrived late evening, in the middle of the first snows in October, having got lost and nearly run out of petrol...the staff greeted us calmly and the chef, Helgi, stayed on to ensure we were served a beautiful evening meal.
Helgi was certainly the star of the show - friendly, superb cook and brilliant personality! He sorted out our hire-car problems and made us feel like we had our own personal chef, such was his attention to detail and customer care.
Thank you Hotel Glymur for making our autumn honeymoon so special and truely romantic. Hope to see you all again in the future!!

I did not give this place 5 stars because it just wasn't on the same plane as the Hotel Budir - where we had stayed the night before. Also, and at no fault of the hotel, it was fairly empty when we were there - this could be both a positive and a negative (we viewed it as the former) - and the morning fog prevented us from getting to enjoy the view from our room. As regards the room itself, I was less than thrilled with having to climb the iron staircase to get up to our bed; also, it got hot at night and I was forced to choose between sweating (windows closed) and bugs coming in through the windows.

We did love the staff, the food and the outdoor hot tubs. The isolated nature of the hotel was a big plus too.
