People seemed kind but were not at all concerned that our TV never worked. They claimed that they were doing all they could, but nothing was ever done. Room tiny so much two people could not walk around at the same time. Food very good.

Room Tip: May be the only place in this part to the country!

During our partial island round tour we stayd three days at this hotel and it was the bet place during our whole holiday.
Everthing is clean and neat. Nice rooms with spectacular sea view. The breakfat buffet is great. Location is very good overlooking the fjord and easy accesible from the capital either via the tunnel or via a bit long route along the fjord.
Two hot tubs with different temperatures are inviting the guests to relax and enjoy the view at the same time.

The Hotel Gymur is a shining northern light in itself.
The staff and location are excellent.
Ragna and Arna were welcoming, efficient and professional in all aspects, delivering attention and care to every need (including meeting with the florist on our behalf and driving me to Arkranes to get the flowers for the day ...after a very late night!). Not only when we were on location but also through communication across email and phone over many months of organising for my daughter and son-in -laws special day. From the very first contact Arna said that together we would make the day great ....and that was certainly true!
The hotel has its own special ambiance and we immediately felt comfortable in its surroundings. The cabins are open plan with contemporary and tasteful decor with all you could ask for if self catering. The rooms on split level are a different set up but cute and the beds comfortable. Guests staying with a baby had a super room with their own terrace and large bathroom.
The meal for the Reception was super and met a wide range of dietary requirements with ease. From the home smoked duck, Icelandic cod and strawberry mouse, succulent lamb, chicken and blueberry sauce, stuffed zucchini with a varied selection of trimmings to the flambe baked alaska!
Everything was as the young couple had wished and the whole experience could not be faulted.
Thankyou all for making a special day so exceptional.
P.S. Fizz in the hot tubs watching the northern lights with friends and family at the end of a very successful celebratory day was certainly the way to go to relax before a good nights sleep and a hearty breakfast the next morning!

Room Tip: The views are wonderful to the front but all are comfortable and the cabins are excellent.

On a recent visit to Iceland we did not book one night. On our travels we happened across Glymur Hotel and Restaurant. The best meal in Iceland from one of the top chefs celebrating 10 years. The hotel is an art gallery of exciting items, has a wonderful view across the bay. We walked a short path over a creek and down to a beautiful church just below the property. Along the way we met a small herd of horses who loved the sugar cubes we offered. This was a special day and night and very much worth the stop. The hot tubs were perfect with a view. we missed the Northern Lights, too many clouds, but the hotel puts you on a list to be informed when they show up.

Room Tip: Suites with a loft are super!

For the price, I wanted to like this place more than we did.
The drive to the hotel was probably the most treacherous of all our legs throughout the entire 1600km drive, but this was a few days after a big snow storm hit the country. There is a low chance we would have made it a) near to this place with sections of the road being as bad as they were or b) up the hill to park the car unless we had an SUV and/or a car with studded tires.
We arrived too late for dinner, but tossed our bags in the room and enjoyed a nice glass of wine to enjoy by the hot tubs outside. The aurora just started, and we managed to take some fantastic shots of it from outside of the hotel and in our room (bonus points for getting a room without a view of the fjord, as the lights were on the opposite side of the hotel that night).
The selection of breakfast foods was good, but we didn't spend long enjoying it before we headed out the third leg of our journey.
I'll start with the con list for the simple reason that for the price of the room and being such standard requirements they should be listed first.
- Zero wi-fi connection in our room (in the main building). Slow wi-fi is par for the course at many hotels in Iceland, but having no connectivity whatsoever in the room was an issue. If you're here to go off the grid or completely dark during your stay, then you're in luck.
- This hotel takes the prize for Coldest Shower. I waited with the water running for over 5 minutes, hoping for anything but cold water to pull, but gave up and showered. Fortunately, they have a hand held shower head so I used that to freeze my body in sections, instead of in it's entirety.
-A minor thing, but I was really surprised that the entrance way to the building hadn't been shoveled and guests had to walk across 15 feet+ of thick ice with baggage to enter. I noticed a few guests come close to wiping out as they walked in and out. Such an easily fixed thing and I was surprised wasn't attended to.

Now, for the PROS:

- Well appointed rooms (mini-fridge, TV, coffee maker, etc.) with what would be great views if you are on the side facing the fjord.
- Hot tubs! Two of them, with well-lit decking and a bridge to get to them.
- Good breakfast selection.
- Clean rooms and linens, and interesting decor and artwork throughout the hotel.
- Had amenities we didn't use, like what appeared to be a little library, and a couple of sitting areas.
- Unobtrusive staff.

All in all, despite some of the basics being missed during our particular stay, I think the hotel would be a good choice, especially if you're looking for something far away from the hordes of tourists. Enjoy!

Room Tip: Half of the rooms have great views facing the fjord.

The villas are very good quality with amazing views of the fjord. The kids loved sitting in the hot tub and taking in the view. We had a lovely walk down to the local church and nearer to the fjord. We didn't eat in the hotel restaurant for 2 reasons. The cost seemed extortionately high (even by Icelandic standards) and it lacked any welcoming atmosphere. I do think the prices were very high and should have included a meal option. I expected the hotel communal areas to have a lot more to offer given the cost per night. More board games etc would have been lovely and a welcoming bar area to sit and relax during the day and evening.

We were here for a "destination wedding" in March. The views were incredible, the food was superb, the rooms were beautiful. The staff was attentive, friendly, warm and extremely helpful. Everyone did their best to make our stay a wonderful experience by recommending places to visit, how to get there and what to expect in terms of weather and road conditions. Breakfast buffet and dinner were a treat and also very accommodating in terms of diet restrictions (i.e. gluten free). Beds were comfortable and floors were deliciously warm due to radiant heat in the villas. Highly recommend this hotel. It was also a great location to explore so many areas of Iceland for day trips to Reykjavik, the southern and western ends of Iceland. We loved our stay! Thank you to the staff for making this a memorable trip!
