We were picked up at our hotel by our guide and driven 15 mins outside of Reykjavík to the farm. Our two children can ride reasonably well but my husband and I had never been on a horse before and I was worried we wouldn’t manage or be too heavy for the small ponies.

The guides at the farm kitted us out with all the equipment we would need encouraging the children to put on more and more layers until they were sure they would be warm enough. We were then given a brief riding lesson and introduction to the ponies (who are very friendly and love affection!)

After a test ride around the paddock we were off on a 1.5hour trek through amazing Icelandic countryside - over bridges, through tunnels, across lava fields and rocky meadows. All with an amazing snowy mountain backdrop.

Three guides accompanied our group of 8 and we were incredibly well looked after. The ponies are so well trained that they know exactly what to do and are responsive to the slightest touch. The guides listened when the children began to say they were tired and made sure we felt in control the whole time.

It was an unforgettable experience and a lovely way to see Icelandic countryside. I highly recommend this company. The guides were friendly, thoughtful and looked after us very well.

I pre-booked my visit using Google search for "horse riding near Reykjavik" in early April, just after a snowstorm and the weather was about 0C. I wore about 3 layers of clothes (top and bottom), including two wool baselayers and a water/wind-proof outerlayer and two pairs of wool socks. If you aren't properly dressed for Icelandic winters outdoors or don't want to get your clothes dirty, they do have an insulated riding suit and gloves you may borrow. The facility was clearly marked and easy to find off the main road. The horses were clearly well-cared for and very playful. The guides were absolutely wonderful--personable, charismatic, knowledgable, enthusiastic and engaging. There were several riders in our group ranging from no experience to 40+ years of experience, and we were all matched with suitable horses. I appreciated the intro to both riding, horses, and the history of the area. The guided tour of the area was beautiful and scenic. There were a few opportunities to stop and take pictures (pretty hard to do when riding a horse, even when traversing "tölt" style!). I fell in love with my little guy (his name was hard to remember) and will definitely be back again for another visit.

This was a great experience despite the weather that day. The end of tour was included food and coffee around a nice table. This is a very nice touch - it closes the experience and gives you an opportunity to meet people from all over.

We were 2 adults and to children with varying skills when it comes to riding. The guides picked horses that fitted each one of us. The tour it selves was easy, but we would prefer to be more away from the main road. Good guidance during the trip. Safe horses; no fuzz. Liked the simple lunch after the trip!

It was an extraordinary ride through the scenic lava fields accompanied by a professional, friendly and knowledgeable staff. The Icelandic horses were wonderful, and the chat over Icelandic snacks after the ride was also very enjoyable. Highly recommended!
