Description: The housing Laekjarbrekka was built as a dwelling in 1834, by the influential Danish ship owner and merchant P.C Knutzon. Hel also build a bakery and a turf house in the same lot and brought the Danish baker T.D Bernhöft to Iceland to practice his trade here. Bernhöft, who was for a long time the only baker in Reykjavík, bought the houses in 1845. The Bernhöft family continued in the baking business at this location for two generations, building a retail shop onto the dwelling house in 1855. This addition is today the part of the restaurant facing the main street. The building was used as a dwelling until 1961, and a small shop was there until the time of reconstruction began in 1980. By then, the house had fallen into disrepair, and had been neglected for a long time. Its future had been uncertain until 1979, when it and several other houses in the same block were declared protected buildings. During reconstruction, every attempt was made to preserve the original appearance. It is therefore with great pleasure to invite you to dine in this beautifully restored house, which has an eventful 180-year history behind it.

I had seen this place on a previous trip to Reykjavik and picked it for our anniversary dinner. We chose one of their multi course dinners including the wine and it made a special day even more special. We loved the food and the ambiance. Staff was very friendly. Pricey? Sure but its Iceland and tax and tips are included in the price. I liked it so much that I returned a few months later on another stop over.

I happened upon this restaurant by chance. Glad I did. The food and service are excellent. I was there between busy times, so there was no waiting for a table. I sat next to a window which was great viewing. The three course lunch is a good value. The hot chocolate cake is wonderful!

Came here on our last night after 5 nights in Reykjavik. Must say this was by far the most disappointing meal of the week.

There was nothing massively wrong as such, but the prices were the same as all the top-end amazing restaurants but the food was just a bit subpar by comparison. Lamb casserole was a bit dry, langoustine soup just wasn't as good as in other places etc etc.

If I only came here, I'd probably leave thinking it was decent enough but having been to other places in Reykjavik, this place isn't keeping up and isn't worth it.

Thank raysemi

We decided on this restaurant after reading many reviews and let's be honest about the cost in Iceland any fine dining restaurant will make your eyes water so did not want to get it wrong. Thankfully it was worth what we paid a excellent meal in a great atmosphere. Very busy but did not have to wait for service the staff where very professional. The food was fantastic fresh and tasty. A very nice evening all round
