Description: Chef Johann Helgi Johannsson and his wife Ragnheidur Helen Edvardsdottir own and manage Resto. Johann has built up a great reputation for quality cooking in other restaurants in Reykjavik so they decided to follow their dreams and open their own restaurant. The atmosphere is friendly and there is much effort put into the food.

While the restaurant isn't exactly in the center of Reykjavik it's certainly worth the short walk. The staff is friendly, the service is quick, and they take reservations. There were quite a few locals there so that was a very positive sign as well. The food was some of the best we had in Iceland and it was a romantic spot for our last night with some light Spanish guitar playing in the background and a distinctly Mediterranean decor. We shared the duck confit as an appetizer (SO delicious I wish we ordered two!) and had the lamb and salmon for main courses (very fresh and well prepared). The wine list was unique and did not disappoint either, I actually chose the cheapest glass of red wine they had (from Frakkland) and was really surprised by the quality and flavor. I would highly recommend this place for couples and families alike looking for fresh Icelandic food with a hint of an Italian flare.

Tips: While the ambience was clearly romantic and carefully curated no one minded that we arrived in VERY casual dress (we were still in our hiking clothes). Their menus are beautifully handwritten and include daily specials from local fishermen.

This was the best meal we had in Iceland, and unexpectedly the most value. We had the 5 course set meal. Every course was delicious and plentiful. The goose was exceptional. The lamb amazing. The wine was excellent, the service top drawer.

If you are looking for that special place to make memories in Iceland then Resto is the spot. We sampled the duck confit & scallop starters & both were simply outstanding. For entrees we had the pan fried salmon in port wine sauce & the lamb medallions cooked perfectly to medium rare. Both were accompanied by a selection of roasted veggies that offered the perfect complement to the main course. Service was impeccable. A truly memorable dining experience. Our only regret is that we were too full to try any dessert!

Resto is besto. The 5 course tasting menu is well worth the splurge. Nothing (before or since) compares to the fish soup. The smoked goose and apple and salted cod in pastry stand out too. We won't forget the Piccini Memoro either. Staff are charming and down-to-earth. Reserve a table in advance so you don't miss this gastronomic masterpiece!

Excellent food, both lamb and fish. We had the five course menu and it was very reasonable for Iceland. Nice, intimate environment. Happily it was only two blocks from our hotel, which we liked a lot, the Centerhotel Migdadur.
