“Chilled out.”
Reviewed February 15, 2015 for a stay in July 2014

Stayed there with my husband and boys (14 and 12 years). We did not hire a car as public transport good. Owner supplied name of taxi firm for transport to and from airport and I can thoroughly reccommend them. Transfer involves short ferry ride. Property is spacious and quite charming. Pool was very much appreciated as was air-con in bedrooms. TV, DVD, internet and washing machine available for use. We did not travel too far from property as wanted a relaxing holiday, however bus stop at bottom of road made travel easy. Well stocked anf friendly supermarket less than 2 minutes away. Gozo bread is fantastic. Several restaurants within walking distance as is the craft village. Property is spacious offering plenty room for everyone. Hope to return in future as very much enjoyed our stay.

“Fantastic family holiday”

I stayed at Il Hoxna with my family, including 2 children aged 11 and 9. We decided not to hire a car given that buses run frequently right round the corner from the farmhouse and are incredibly cheap. We didn't miss not having a car and explored the island with ease. We took the open top bus tour one day which we all enjoyed and stopped at the craft centre just up the road. Il Hoxna is ideally located as the supermarket is about one minute walk away and has everything you need, including lovely fresh baked bread early in the morning. We also went to the luxury Kempinski hotel nearby quite a bit, especially got the half price cocktail hour and also for great bar snacks. the house itself has loads of space and the pool is great, so our kids loved it, as well as having frequent bbq's by the pool. We'll definitely go back.

We had a fantastic time at Il Hoxna. We are a family of 7 with children aged 11-20 and it suited all of us and our needs. Great pool for everyone esp the small one for reading with a cool drink in hand! The location was excellent; super shop 2mins away open 7 days ! Restaurants nearby and bus stop virtually outside house 15 mins and in Victoria ! Safe for everyone to wander and locals very friendly and speak excellent English!! All in all highly recommend Il Hoxna !!

Dear Rebecca
Glad you enjoyed your holiday and your stay at il-Hoxna. Thank you for your positive review.
We take on board your comment regarding the downstairs bedroom. This is very rarely used but in response to your comments we have arranged to install a mesh door and window to allow greater air circulation. This is an ongoing problem with old farmhouses but we hope this will resolve any problems.
Best wishes
Nick

“Ticked all the boxes for a perfect holiday”

This converted farmhouse had everything we needed and more - it is very large, spacious and airy ( the rooms have air-con but we barely used it) well equipped ( there was even a large flat screen TV) and was beautifully clean yet with a lovely rustic feel. The children enjoyed exploring all the nooks and crannies - and was perfect for hide and seek! The pool was great and the poolside area was lovely and private and you didn't feel that you were in the middle of a town.
Gharb is a small town but is well served by at least 4 restaurants and there is a small shop just along the street from the villa which has fresh bread and all the groceries/ wine you could need and we didn't need to drive to Victoria to shop at all.
We loved Gozo - the people were friendly and nearly all speak good English, food good and reasonably cheap- we loved Jeffrey's just 20 yards from the front door of the villa - and everything is within a short drive/ bus journey. We hired a car and driving was stress free despite there being few road markings- the Maltese have a reputation for their bad driving but it seems the Gozitians are quite a different breed. Driving is on left as in the UK which is a bonus!
There are many beautiful beaches and we know we didn't find them all but we loved Xlendi which is a bay with a real Colonial feel and Hondoq which we only discovered on our last day and is a little gem.
Gozo has captured our hearts and we look forward to discovering more on our return - because we came home and immediately booked this fabulous villa again for later in the year!

We used a transfer company (Mayjo) to collect us from the airport and drive us to the ferry over to Gozo and then on to the villa. It was dark when we eventually got there and, although we could have managed it had we hired a car at the airport, this made it stress free as the driver knew where the villa was. We had instructions for the keysafe and entry into the villa was all very straightforward. Mayjo dropped us off a hire car the following morning.
