“A Life-Changing Experience”

We arrived late at night via the ferry from Sicily, but it was no problem. David, our Maltese concierge, was waiting outside the grand old building to let us in, carry our bags up the stairs, and introduce us to the best living space in Valletta.

David walked us through all of the various bells and whistles the penthouse contained (of which there are many). David and Joseph had done the requested grocery shopping for us (essentials for the evening and following morning: bottled water, fresh coffee, milk). Also waiting in the kitchen was a bottle of excellent Maltese wine and a fabulous date tart they had procured for my daughter's birthday. Really thoughtful touches that made us feel like family. David was knowledgeable, kind, warm, and gracious.

The space itself is filled with air and light, and as you look past the kitchen/dining area bathed in sun from a huge skylight, there awaits a floor-to-ceiling panoramic view of the harbor. The apartment is modern, meticulously clean, and outfitted with all appliances and kitchen items one could need. Waking up to see the sun rise over the water while hearing the bells from 100 churches chime, the smell of freshly-baked pastries wafting up from the restaurants below...nothing could compare.

The location, cleanliness, service, attention to detail, views, memories---I give them all a 10. If you are visiting Malta, look no further. This is the place to stay.

“Spectacular and quiet”

We took the «stairway to heaven» and arrived at Joseph’s spectacular apartment. It is modern and airy with all the important facilities and a big, secluded terrace with a full view towards the harbour. The area is very quiet, so there is no noice from any traffic outside the bedrom windows. Joseph, the owner, was most helpfull and very quick to respond to all our questions.
The only thing in the apartment we didn’t like, were the glass doors towards the bedrooms and the toilet. We all need som privacy…:)

“Fantastic place to stay in Valletta”
Reviewed July 25, 2014 for a stay in July 2014

Wow - this is what we both said when we walked into the apartment - WHAT A FANTASTIC VIEW, PRICELESS!

This is simply a wonderful apartment with spectacular views over the grand harbour. This view is precisely why we love coming back to Valletta. This apartment is a great find, it is large and spacious and modern in design. All the fixtures and fittings are modern and everything works. The air-conditioning is essential as it is so hot in July, we had it going day and night in both the living room and main bedroom. It makes a bit of a noise but it did not bother us in the slightest. The kitchen has a cooker, fridge, freezer, toaster, kettle, washing machine and dish washer, all modern and all easy to use. When we ate in the apartment, we were out on the deck, for breakfast and dinner and what a wonderful place to have a meal.

The main bedroom has a large double bed which is quite comfortable and the bed clothes are good. The air conditioner in the bedroom does not make too much noise and did not bother us in the slightest. There is also an interesting collection of books to read if you are so inclined.

The main room is split level, with the kitchen on the upper level and the living room on the lower level, which you reach by descending down two steps. The room has a large flat screen TV with cable box and there are a good selection of English news channels and two free to air movie channels in English. The sofa is very comfortable. The apartment also has a very good wifi service which is free.

The bathroom is a good size but the shower is perhaps a little small and as there is no door or curtain on the shower, the water goes everywhere. The toilet also makes an annoying noise (I think it is a pump?) every 15 or so minutes. As the bathroom is opposite the bedroom this can be a little annoying. The apartment has a good supply of towels which are in reasonable condition.

The deck has a table and six chairs, and four deck chairs. There is also a rail to dry your clothes. The apartment is very quiet, even out on the deck. This is one of the attractions of this place, the views are not spoiled by noisy neighbours or busy roads.

While the apartment is first rate, there are a couple of minor things that should be addressed. For example, some of the light switches do not have an outer case and some of the lights need to be replaced. Nothing major, but it needs a little attention. The deck has no shade, so during the day, from about 10:00 to 17:00 in July you have the full force of the Mediterranean Sun on the deck - which means it is really not usable for very long during this period. It would be really good to have an awning or even an umbrella over the table to provide some shade.

We had one small problem when we lost power to the apartment. This was due to a fault in the apartment below us. We called Joseph and he was onto it in no time. We had to go out for a dinner engagement and while we were out, Joseph SMS'd us to say all was sorted. It didn't take 50 minutes from the point we notified Joseph which was very impressive.

The apartment is on the third floor of the building. As there is no lift, you need to climb 6 flights of stairs to get to the apartment. So it is a bit of a hike, especially when moving in or moving out with luggage. While the stairs did not bother us, in fact we welcomed the exercise, but I can imagine it would be a bit of a problem if you were elderly or infirm or if you had little children.

The street that the apartment is located on is staired. So no vehicles can run on the street. This means you must approach the apartment on foot. It is quite a few steps up if you approach from the bottom end of the road, so we recommend you approach the apartment from the upper end (towards the upper barrakka).

The apartment if very well located, close to all the amenities of Valletta and close to the bus terminal.

We absolutely love the apartment and hope to return soon.

“Sensational view & luxury apartment”

From the moment we booked this apartment Joseph was wonderful and extremely helpful. We didn't fly in until 11pm and Joseph was there to give directions to the taxi driver and to assist with carrying bags into the apartment. In fact, if I had remembered to give him my mobile number, he would have collected us from the airport as he was there to pick up a friend whose flight had been delayed!
We had provisions provided as he thought we may be hungry after a day of flights (which lasted for ages) and all of the instructions for wifi (
which was very fast), air conditioning and other appliances were explained when we arrived.
The apartment has an amazing view. We were lucky enough to be in Malta for a week and every day (& night) the view was priceless! We had sundowner drinks every night on the large outdoor patio watching the boat traffic pass us by on the harbour and nightly fireworks.
Joseph helped us out with suggestions for restaurants (& even booked one of his favourite restaurants for us) Joseph also gave us invaluable advice when my husband had a dental emergency. He also allowed us a late check out so that we could enjoy the apartment until our airport collection.
The apartment is very spacious & has all the facilities that you need for a stay in this fabulous city and is close to all of the sights and restaurants and bus & taxi areas.
Thank you Joseph for being a wonderful host. You have made this apartment a great place to stay in!

“An Amazing Place”

Joseph's Place is amazing and beautiful, the view is outstanding, the kitchen, living areas and bedrooms are great, but to get to the apartment there are multiple flights of stairs, making it physically challenging so if you suffer in physical challenges this may not be the best place for you, also one of the only negatives is the bathroom and the living room air conditioning. The bathroom is not the best, the shower spills over everywhere and the toilet is unstable. The air conditioning in the living room doesn't work at all, but the bedroom air conditioning works brilliantly. This apartment is just a walks away from the Valleta city as well as the bus terminus. Overall a brilliant place for people who are physically able to get to the apartment, a great view and place to stay.

Thank you for your review, I am happy you liked the flat and Malta. I would like to replay to your stairs issue, as clearly write in the listing the flat is at the 3rd floor with not elevator but this is pretty usual in a city like Valletta. We are not in New York, we are in a Mediaeval city, the Knits’ city….built far before elevators were invented!!! Regarding the air conditioning during your stay you did not tell me anything….all is however now working since the two sleets had their regular annual maintenance.

“Fantastic location, cool apartment”
Reviewed May 30, 2014 for a stay in May 2014

The apartment was gorgeous - amazing views and really comfortable to hang out in. Joseph met us at the apartment and showed us around including a mini history of the area we could see and providing bread, cheese, ham and milk for the morning which was a lovely touch.
Perfect for a couple or two couples or for a young family (there's even a cot).

“Magical view - perfectly presented property”
Reviewed January 30, 2014 for a stay in January 2014

This is property is a very special one. The design is modern and uncluttered, well fitted out with the necessities of an apartment and considerable thought has gone into the layout. As it is still a reasonably new renovation there are a few minor adjustments being made. Joseph and his team were super helpful. I have a minor mobility issue and they were very thoughtful with organising cases etc as the apartment is top floor and unfortunately permission wasn't granted to put a lift in during the renovations. Access to the bus and ferry system is a short (but steepish) walk away, as are the main sightseeing places of Valetta itself. History pours out of every stone in this area.
The joy really is the view - it is worth the climb up the steps. For those who want to have some relaxation while on holiday there is always something to be seen overlooking the Grand Harbour - small dingy's through to cruise liners, pilot boats, tug boats etc yet look over the old bastion fortifications and there is peace and quiet to take in.
The area has good restaurants but I prefer sitting watching the view at night to nightclubs so cannot comment on that aspecgt.
Thanks Joseph and team for a wonderful stay.
