“Great Apartment”

This is a self-catering apartment in a residential section of town. There are a couple of small grocers and a bakery just up the street. Being that it is in the residential section, that means there are Maltese folks just going about their day. But that also means there's noise in the street earlier in the day. It is just a short walk up to Republic Square and all the tourist areas but at the end of the day, it was nice to walk away from the bustle and return to a residence.

The apartment itself is really nice, clearly an old building with a lot of character. There were adequate fans to keep air moving and it had all the creature comforts we needed, including a washing machine and wi-fi.

This was a great place for us to stay but we really only used the apartment for sleeping and for mid-day siestas. Still it was great to have a space that was "ours" for the first few days on Malta.

“Perfect base for exploration”

Two thumbs up...five stars. All good stuff.
Now let me tell you more because you need to chose a place like this knowing what you're getting. This is a beautiful home/apartment in one of the residential centers of Valletta and within very short walks of just about everywhere in that lovely city. It is self-catering; so come with the expectation of either eating out or buying groceries (a number of 'take aways' very nearby). It is also in a residential district, complete with the sounds of daily life: folks getting up to go to work (and, yes, the sounds of working, too) and winding down from their day at work. It is also a base, not a retreat (IMHO). It is perfect for sleeping and eating and resting, but I wouldn't spend too much time inside anywhere in Valletta (if you're looking for a resort, look somewhere else); this is not an indictment of the place, just a realization...it's Valletta for God's sake. Finally, if you have ANY problems, get in touch with James. He was wonderful and very quick to respond to even the most silly/pointless requests. I don't know any better endorsement than to say that I'd stay there again.

“Lovely house - great location”

The owner was very helpful and organised a pick-up for us from the airport for just €18, he also provided us with some chilled beers for our arrival! The house is divided into three levels. On opening the front door there are a few steps up into a large open plan sitting room. Big TV, comfortable sofa and armchair… all you need. Up the stone stairs is a good-sized bedroom with a double bed, wardrobe, bedside tables and chest of drawers. Plenty of room for all your clothes. All the windows have fine mosquito screens which we were grateful for. Down the stairs from the sitting room is the open plan kitchen, dining area and shower and loo. The house is very old and the arches that span the lower ground floor ceiling do mean that you have to stoop to get into the shower and loo. Wi-fi worked really well around the sitting room and bedroom. There is no air-con but the walls are so thick the house wasn’t too hot and there are fans you can use. It’s a friendly neighbourhood and we chatted to a few of our neighbours and the local shopkeeper. Republic Street is just a few steps away, leading right up to the centre of Valletta and on to the bus station. If you don’t fancy the ten minute stroll, you can call an electric cab (+356 77414177) to pick you up and take you anywhere in Valletta for €5. The ferry to Sliema goes every 30 mins from the ferry point a 10 min walk away (€1.5 single). A seven-day bus pass costs €6.50 and is well worth it if you want to do a bit of exploring. The house is in easy walking distance of The War Museum, the Museum of Archaeology and many other places of interest. Spotlessly clean, well-equipped with lots of fresh towels (plus extra delivered during the week). There is a washing machine too. This house provides the perfect base for a visit to the wonderful, historic city of Valletta. From here you can easily visit the rest of Malta too by bus, car or boat. If there are a few of you, ask the owner about his other properties. I’m sure I’ll go again – it was fab!

Liked best: The house has lots of character
Liked least: Stooping for the loo, but unavoidable with the lovely ceiling arches....
