Owner description: This museum emerged from the Diekirch Historical Museum (opened in 1984), which was primarily dedicated to the "Battle of the Bulge" in Luxembourg in winter 1944/45. The key topic of the museum remains the balanced and objective historical representation of the military operations in the Ardennes from the german, american and civilian points of view. Over 3000 square meters of exhibition space and numerous lifesize impressive dioramas enable an insight of the dramatic and tragic situations that both, soldiers and civilians, were caught in. Special showrooms feature extensive collections of weapons, uniforms, military equipment of all kind, wheeled- and tracked vehicles, in addition to numerous personal soldier's belongings, photographs, documents and maps. The museum's core is doubtlessly the detailed diorama of the night-time Sauer river crossing at Diekirch on January 18th, 1945 by units of the 5th U.S. Infantry division. A second part at MNHM museum is dedicated to the history of Luxembourg's own armed forces since the creation of Luxembourg as a state, until present. A number of large-scale striking dioramas cover key aspects and periods of the post WWII Luxembourg army. Other sections are dedicated to Luxembourgers fighting in allied armies in both WWI, WWII, and during the Korean conflict.

In one word: unbelievable !
I was 8 years in the German Army Paratroopers btw. 1976 - 1984. Of course you would ask yourself in all the trainings and joint forces exercises what it would be like if a real case once happened. You try to imagine and you create pictures in your mind of what life was way back in the 2 worldwars - as a soldier and as someone who did not obey the German regime. You see documentaries and movies - however the impression that you get when you can see all the documents, weaponry and scenes in real is much more impressive and memorable. I didn't expect too much when we visited the museum during a short holiday in the Eifel - but I have to give big credit to the organizers and the whole team there. It is simply the most impressive war-museum I have seen so far.
I wrote the comment in English in order to address to as many people from different countries as possible.
I will come back with friends from England and Scotland in summer - they are very much interested to see this place.

Wow! There are countless War museums around the world but this one is so wonderfully detailed, authentic, and interesting it stands out! It tells the story of WW2 from both sides and has an abundance of artifacts. Really interesting and glad we didn’t skip it!

I have visited this museum a half dozen times and I always enjoy it. This was my wife's first visit and she was astounded by the large collection of military vehicles. Two American battle tanks and a couple of American artillery pieces are on display outside the museum and a large number of military vehicles and crew served weapons are found inside. In addition to this, there are uniforms, a large display of both American and German sidearms, grenades, bayonets and fighting knives. Also a large display of military medical items can be found. The museum is primarily a WWII museum but items and information from every conflict that soldiers from Luxembourg have fought in are to be found. Entry is cheap...Euro 7.50 for adults. The one downside is that there is no longer parking available just outside the museum. One has to find parking (and pay) in one of the city parking lots.

I visited this museum not knowing what to expect: was totally bowled over by the depth and breadth of the collection here and the amazing way it has been displayed. The vehicle hall, packed with everything from Jeeps to a Hetzer, was a total surprise. The staff could not have been more helpful. An absolute must!

My visit here was pre May 2017 so can't recall entry fee but it wasn't expensive. I found 2 hours wasn't long enough, so much to see. I recall one could get a coffee there too but it is just a short walk from the centre of Diekirch where there are plenty of places for refreshment.
