A beautiful secluded getaway

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Jun 3, 2018via mobile
We spent a lovely evening at Longcol. The staff were friendly and helpful and our dinner on the terrace was excellent value and of Michelin star standard. Delicious and memorable.

Our standard room was very comfortable and clean.

The next day, breakfast was excellent and beautifully presented. We were welcome to lounge by the pool even though they were setting up for a private event.

The only negative factor was the temperature of the swimming pool. It was a challenging 71F and only for the brave!

This was my second time here and it's a great experience. The food is expertly presented and tastes amazing. The staff are attentive and friendly. You always get a few extra mini courses and the bread is incredible!

We spent 7 days at this lovely place, and were especially delighted by the superbe dinner served by the chef. Every night a different menu is proposed with the best selection of regional food, each course offering a delicious experience. The owner an staff are extremely friendly and we loved the hospitality not only towards ourselves but also to our dogs. The standard room was a bit older (bathroom, airco) but had a superior bed. The swimming pool is not heated so we couldn’t use it during our stay. The location is nice and quiet but to visit interesting places are take a long hike you need your car, there’s nothing really at walking distance.

Went for dinner with 3 friends in late September, most exquisite 5 course taster menu I have had in some time. Many products locally sourced (Najac veal was perfect) Really unusual food conbinations, beautifully presented & impeccable service.

We chose the Chateau de Longcol both from personal and TripAdvisor recommendations for a three day quiet break with our border collie in August 2017.

For anyone who knows France, this is a contradiction in terms – quiet and holiday in France in August don’t go together easily, about 20 million French are on holiday at the same time, and everywhere remotely touristic is usually packed.

Not so, the Aveyron, which is where the hotel is situated, on a bend in the river, surrounded by forest, and not easily accessed – very narrow and twisty roads and a long way from any large town.

However, the trip was well worth it. We booked the “Un Soir a Longcol” package, bed, breakfast and evening meal, in a Superior room – which had its own entrance both onto the poolside, and also a separate door towards the garden and path down to the river – ideal for taking our dog for a walk without disturbing other guests.

We loved the hotel, it has a “laid-back” feeling, which meant that although they were fully booked both in the hotel and restaurant, it was calm and peaceful, with no feeling that the hotel management were continually watching in case guests damaged the “priceless artefacts” dotted around, something we have experienced in similar properties around Europe. In fact the staff are superb, friendly, there when needed, and extremely good at their jobs.

The room was comfortable, quiet, and well furnished, the bathroom provided a shower so powerful it actually blew out of its holder if you turned it on too quickly – so very invigorating.

Of course, the highlight of the stay was the restaurant, breakfast more than sufficient for any appetite, and the evening meal an adventure. No menu, it was a 3 or, during our stay 5 courses, plus an amuse bouche and pre-appetiser, and you took what came. We took the hotel wine choice to accompany it – three different wines one with each course, chosen to match the food.

All in all a very enjoyable weekend, not cheap, but worth the expense, with a plus in that our dog was treated as equal, and made welcome from our arrival. We can highly recommend it.

Room tip: room 10 for anyone with a dog

We stayed here mid January in fact the hotel opened just for our management meeting. We stayed for two nights. The rooms are very well appointed and the views stunning I should imagine in the summer it would be idyllic.
Now to the food! The food in my humble opinion is Michelin star standard every meal including breakfast was excellent. The wines being chosen and carefully served by the chefs father. Anna the owner was a fantastic host she explained the food and wine choices and ensured we were perfectly looked after.

Room tip: The hotel is very isolated make sure you know where your going.
