This hotel in Liechtenstein profiles itself as a business hotel. We were there as holiday guests. From a business hotel, you might expect things like airco: not present in the rooms. In the weekend (no business), the hotel is in a sort of standby mode. There is a breakfast buffet of course (reasonable), but no restaurant dinner.
In our room, the Minibar was almost empty. It was a mess, with half-filled and empty bottles. Apart from a mini bottle of Moet & Chandon (50 CHF) there was not much to enjoy. Luckily, we found someone who could fetch a white wine from the bar.
I would say, a little upgrade could do no harm. An ash tray in the room suggests that you may smoke (that is so previous century). On the other hand, the free wifi is OK.
All in all, not very positive

The hotel is well maintained and clean; rooms are simple but adequate.

The people are great. If you have a problem with the internet they reboot the router for you. That sort of willingness to help.

The meals are good. Always ask the chef what's on special and take his advice; I had the veal liver and it was great. The continental breakfast is more than adequate.

Location is good; quiet, and with the great views of the mountains. Parking on the premises is convenient too.

This well-run little hotel has a spectacular setting right at the foot of snow-capped mountains, and is itself a bracing uphill walk from the town centre of Schaan in the valley below. The tall impressive spire of the church is nearby. Quiet houses nestle in green gardens. A light March frost speckles the grass... It's the second time I've stayed here on a stopover, experiencing its smaller and its more spacious (with balcony) rooms, and both times I found the Schaanerhof relaxing, comfortable and attractive. Notable is its restaurant, using quality local produce both for breakfast and at dinner and, I assume, lunch too. It has a very good wine list with not only some interesting Swiss and Liechtenstein whites, but a number of excellent clarets (eg Leoville Barton) at pretty competitive prices for what is one of the world's more expensive countries. There are also "wellness" facilities in the basement - sauna, etc. Minor quibbles: the upstairs hall carpets could do with a refresher, and it's cabled internet and not wifi in rooms (though it is free) - it's a snoopy sort of place, Liechtenstein. However, this tucked-away little pastoral idyll not only represents a good spot for a "retreat" business gathering (though don't look for night-life in Schaan!!), but you really can also imagine a spring break a deux here - quiet restful nights, lovely clean air, bracing walks, beautiful scenery, good food, decent value - though I imagine the journey here wouldn't be the easiest getaway.
