We booked the trip through holiday pirates so had a great deal. The hotel was clean and comfortable with a great cow theme! The food was very good and the spa also surprisingly nice! Although the hotel was a 20 minute drive from the slopes, this was not a problem as there was a free bus every morning and evening (although it did not turn up on time!) and it was also possible to book a taxi to the La Massana resort (10€) or Arinsal (18€). The main night life was in Arinsal with great bars there (that were ridiculously cheap at 1.50€ a pint) although there is also a nice bar area in Hotel Mu to sit and have a drink (also cheap - 2€ for a heineken) after a busy day skiing.
We were unsure of where to book our ski hire at first and booked from a shop in Arinsal which is a 20 minute drive in a taxi, although it is also possible to book it in La Massana, the closer resort, which would have been helpful to know before.
Overall a fantastic trip with lovely staff and facilities - would recommend to anyone, especially those on a budget!

My friend of 30 plus years and I left our respective husbands behind and stayed at Hotel Mu for our first ski holiday in about 10 years. We had an amazing time. The Secret Escapes arrangements worked perfectly. The initial transfer was a slight worry as the bus stop was not immediately obvious - but we just needed to walk further to the right outside airport arrivals!

Hotel Mu have incredibly dedicated hard working staff. The wonderful lady behind the bar was outstanding - friendly, charming and she managed to make everyone feel remembered and special.

The food was excellent given they were catering for different nationalities and it was a buffet. There was always choice, with dishes constantly being replenished. Breakfast gave cold and cooked options. Supper consisted of a soup and / or salad starter and 3 choices of main one of which was always fish.

Other reviews have commented on how warm the rooms in the hotel are. This is true but we turned the radiator off and opened the window - problem solved! The room itself was small but had everything we needed. We used the minibar fridge for milk (morning tea) and for ham / cheese used to take lunches for the slopes. The supermarkets in La Massana were really reasonably priced and we didn't want to stop for lunch everyday in the cafes on the slopes. We had read that there was no tea/ coffee facilities in the room so took travel kettle and tea bags

Again folk have commented on the erratic bus. This is a free service and it always arrived. Eventually. The "upside" of this was the bus stop conversations with other guests. If you are the type of person who needs predictability or yearns to be at the slopes as they open then use the regular public bus service or book taxis.

The skiing was just brilliant - great snow and a variety of runs - certainly sufficient for a week. While there is no Apres Ski in La Cortinada we were too old and too tired to want any! Other guests were so convivial that drinks in the bar could be really social.

We used the Spa facilities in the hotel and while small, gave welcome relief to tired muscles after a days skiing. There is a bit of mould above the jacuzzi but that's an inevitability in the damp conditions. The ice rub after the sauna was just amazing. We were given toweling robes when booking our session - and kept them for the week which was handy after showering.

All in all, for the price, you would struggle to better this package. The staff at Hotel Mu made this holiday really enjoyable.

This is going to be long and comprehensive to do the hotel justice but give a clear picture:

Firstly, we were unlucky with timing. We took a great value Secret Escapes break but there were about 30 schoolkids in the hotel at the same time and so that will come out in the review comments. It meant there was quite a bit of noise each morning from 6.30am, dinner was disrupted every night and not relaxed and there was a lot of noise in the corridors/rooms on our/their last night.

Food - this is a ski style offering and so was a buffet breakfast and buffet evening meal. Both meals would have a large choice.

Breakfast (presuming the kids hadn't eaten all of the pastries before we arrived) was well stocked with fruit, cereals, bread, cheese, meats etc. The cooked stuff was ok but I don't like powdered scrambled egg (gritty) so that wasn't brilliant. Although the hot drinks containerts difdn't seem to keep the drinks hot, the staff were very good and would bring us hot water jugs for us to have hot tea.

Dinner was pretty average as most "bain marie" heated style buffets are. There was three meat/fish choiuces every night and I have to say the salad was excellent each night. The soup was also usually pretty good. Again we had to be lucky that the kids hadn't polished off like swarming locusts at certain items, notably pasta, onion rings, chips, desserts etc.

The problem that the system for the kids to eat in groups (it was a ski competition and they were in international teams) was that the tables all got set up for these groups and they would randomly decide what time they took up their tables leaving insufficient space for other guests. This culminated in us complaining badly one night. The staff again eventually sorted it out and in fairness the hotel left us a bottle of Cava in our room and knocked 10% off our total drinks bill (5 euros discount but it was a gesture) by way of apology.

Drinks aren't dear although dearer than smaller bars. Wines were pretty good and pretty reasonable at an average of about 15 euros a bottle. TIP - it's cheaper by the bottle.

All in all, not what we've come to expect from Secret Escapes but as noted below, the VFM we paid has to be taken into account and as a businessman I recognise that the hotel needs to use as many rooms as possible and accommodate varying guests in order to make money and survive.

The hotel decor is quirky and the public spaces and indeed our bedroom were very nice and very warm. We had a small balcony, which was nice although used more to cool drinks that stand/sit on! As per normal skiing routine, Double bed means two singles pushed together with single bedding but we are used to that.

The whole hotel has tiled floors (presumably practical for cleaning etc) which does mean that it can be a bit noisy if you are hoping to have any sleep in's but generally skiers don't, so only an occasional problem unless you have groups of kids in the hotel as mentioned earlier!

The Spa is a nice facility - steam room, sauna, jacuzzi and outdoor hot tub (note - due to lack of space this is by the front door right on the roadside which makes it odd and quirky but the hotel lends you robes and we used it). The spa area is however seriously in need of a lick of paint a few electrical fitting changes and a general refurb after the season is over.

The "shuttle" to the slopes mentioned in our paperwork wasn't a hotel shuttle of which there are none - it was the "FreeBus" that comes as part of your lift pass. It is irregular and often late or early to catch you out. Several groups had to get taxis but luckily that was 13 euros between four.

Location i'd mark as a 2 to 2.5 - not fantastic really. Andorra is not as well set up for mad skiers that want early starts as the rest of Europe anyway but when the first bus of the day turns up somewhere between 9.45 and 10 am it means that generally skiing starts at about 10.30am

The skiing itself in this area has pros and cons. The pros were - no queues for cable car, ski lifts, food or drinks on slopes. Lots of wide open beginner and intermediate slopes with very few people on them (compared to major European ski centres). The cons - not really lots for the advanced skiers, no apres ski.

TIP - book ski hire through Secret Escapes (or your travel agent etc)as it appeared about 30 euros cheaper than booking it from the shop.

Wifi was available everywhere and was pretty good.

The staff were very good. Friendly and always trying to help. Christian, the Maitre D' was particularly good and worked like a trojan, always with a smile and always trying to go the extra yard to help. I would say however, that having a receptionist that really can't speak hardly any English is not a great idea. There were over 20 English guests during our 5 night stay. Luckily I can speak French and that got my points forward and queries sorted.

In summary this is a nice looking hotel but is not a boutique hotel, but a reasonable ski style hotel. We were unlucky with the kids and so that has to be accounted for in the negative parts of my feedback.

Mainly due to location and transport I/we wouldn't choose to stay here again but please note that the value for money we received was fantastic. We paid £500 per head for flights, transfers, lift passes and 5 nights half board with two days spa pass included (normally 10 euros I think). The transfer alone was worth about £60 each, the lift pass about £120 each.

If you do stay there is a great little bar down the road with a really friendly owner that serves really cheap drinks and also will put English footy on if requested - well worth a visit.

Thought I'd leave a review as u couldn't glean too much information before we came.

The hotel is lovely- warm, clean and cosy. The staff are brilliant, they can't do enough to help and their English is really good as sadly I'm really bad at languages! The food's nice, plenty of choice at breakfast and dinner, my only remark is that it's a little bit random but this is first time I've stayed half board so maybe that's normal. But it's all cooked well and it's always very fresh with plenty of choice. The rooms are comfy and functional, and the bathroom's a good size, the rest of the hotel is done out very well, the cow print is quirky and not overwhelming! The spa is nice too after a long day on the slopes! The only thing letting it down is probably the location, free buses run to the different ski areas but they're pretty inconsistent so we ended up getting taxis some of the time, (€15-18) to Arinsal which isn't too bad if you share. If like many others you're looking at this hotel through secret escapes I'd say it's worth it even if you factored in the costs for the taxis. We board and the area has some amazing skiing and boarding! Also the Irish bar 20m down the road is fab, the wi-fi is fast and the beer is cheap!

This is a gem of a hotel, tucked away in the deep valley that leads up to the Arcalis ski slopes.

Most significantly, the staff, food, and cleanliness are excellent. The staff, as with all Andorrans we've spoken to, are very friendly and helpful. The food, on our half board package, was all buffet style, but both breakfast and dinner sessions are three hours long, and the excellent food is always replenished. The rooms and reception areas are all clean, despite skiers clomping through with snowy boots!

I can only think of one area that needs attention. The basement spa has seen better days. The jacuzzi, sauna and steam room didn't work properly, and it needs a lick of paint in general.

We'd definitely recommend this hotel, and this area (for skiing at least). In 4 days of skiing we took one of a number of free busses to the slopes. Probably worth doing a bit of research on the free bus timetables before you come here, local knowledge is thin on the ground!
