“We could walk everywhere ...”

Stayed here in September before we started our Salzkammergut Walk from Abersee and it was a cool little place with lovely front desk staff who were exceptionally helpful. Nice fittings and typically Salzburg style decor. Our room was a generous size with a good bathroom and bath. We were able to walk to St Peter's Baroque Hall for the Mozart Concert which was just across the river in the old town. The room was very comfortable with free Wifi. Breakfast was a nice surprise and we were able to have the conventional scrambled eggs and bacon that were on offer, along with the prerequisite hard-boiled eggs, meats and cheese so loved by Europeans.

Room Tip: Our room was in the front of the hotel and we had a good sleep. However it was a coolish night.

I stayed at the hotel Austrotel for one night and found it overall to be an excellent value.
We were in Munich and wanted to take an overnight trip somewhere easily accessible by train. Which by the way is just a quick hour and a half train ride through some beautiful German countryside.
The room, although slightly dated was clean and comfortable. The hotel's location is excellent within easy walking distance to both the old town and Linzer Gasse which is lined with great little shops and restaurants.
This is not a luxury hotel and does not claim to be one. If you are looking for a good, clean, centrally located hotel at a reasonable price I do not think you will have any problems.
As a travel agent I would have no problem recommending this hotel to a client.

This hotel supposedly has 4 stars. You wonder why!
1) My room (219) was excessively noisy with several bus-lines plus heavy traffic right in front of the window all night. It was impossible to sleep with the window open. As the room was not air-conditioned this wasn't a pleasant experience.
2) The ceiling light in the entrance to the room didn't work when I arrived. I immediatly informed hte reception and was told it would be repaired "tomorrow". When I left three days later it still hadn't been fixed. This was a nuisance as I had to enter a completely dark room each night and grope for the switches of the other lamps further in the room....
3) One evening I asked at the reception for a wake-up call at 7 a.m. It never came ! I woke up by coincidence (someone calling me on my mobile phone) otherwise I would have missed an important meeting. When I complained at the reception the lady said cheerfully "But you woke up, didn't you! That's all that counts." Well ...
4) The glass doors to the shower don't close completely. On the first evening I unknowingly "flooded" the bathroom floor; afterwards I showered very carefully so as not to get any water near the shower doors ...

Room Tip: Maybe rooms to the yard are quieter

Stayed here for a week-long meeting at the Mozart U. Very convenient in terms of access to old town as well as other shopping districts, bus lines and, of course, Mozart U. Friendly staff, nice breakfast. My room is spacious by European standards, but a a bit hot during this hot spell in early September.

If there is any doubt that Salzburg in August is a tourist trap, this supposedly 4-star hotel is proof. Everything about the property is showing age and neglect; the staff bordered on the unhelpful, the breakfast, an outrage at 13 extra Euros, was barely edible.

The hotel itself is NOT on Mirabell Platz, but on a side street used by the numerous tourist buses disgorging hordes of tourists throughout the day.

No AC and no fans during an unusually hot spell, and a malfunctioning TV that had to be at least 30 years old.

If you want a hotel that is basic, no thrills and just to sleep in then go here. It is close to the old town and the train station. It is a bit noisy at night as it is buy the main road but we were so tired after walking around AMAZING Salzburg that we never noticed. the girl was helpful on the desk. the room is pretty basic but the bed was VERY nice. Lets be honest. you get what you pay for and we paid 130 euros for two nights so i cant really complain. Would stay there again. We had a wonderful two days in Salzburg and were very upset to leave. the hotel is right next door to the gardens were they filmed the sound of music!!

The single worst hotel we've ever stayed in. 4 Stars, yeah right!?!
The double glazed windows haven't been fitted correctly so all and mean all the noise from the road floods in, night and day. From buses braking, to the pedestrian crossing beeper sound, to drunks yahoo'ing it up at 3am, it would have been quieter sleep on the street! No AC either our room had all day sun so was like a sauna day and night... Dated and worn interior. Told the girl on the night desk about how noisey the room was at midnight as we couldn't get to sleep, she was empowered to resolve the situation, so I spoke to the older bloke on the front desk on the morning and he said he'd see to it and have us moved to a room that didn't face the road... We came back to find a younger woman on the reception and we asked her about the new room we'd been promised. She then explained we'd have to pay for an upgrade.... So here we are in our original room, sweating it out at 5pm, sweat beading down my leg as I type... Even with window wide open and the curtain closed to keep the sun out. Holiday hell, this is it. Have heard good things about the Bristol Hotel from other travelers. Avoid the Austrotel at all costs. FYI never been motivated to write a review before this experience. Total shocker!
