Hotel Wolf-Dietrich
Ranked #33 of 132 Hotels in Salzburg
Reviewed 3 February 2012

The Wolf-Dietrich is a fantastic place to stay in Salzburg. There are so many positives; size of the room, location, amenities, staff...it was really a great experience. From the moment we checked in we were treated as special guests, not just another group paying for another room. The front desk staff was very helpful in giving us tips and pointing us in the right direction for things to do in the city.

There is a large selection of movies that can be borrowed if you need a couple of hours of downtime after touring the city.

The location is ideal for exploring the town; close enough to walk to everything, but not so close that you have to fight crowds to get into your room.

We stayed here for one night, and found it satisfactory though could improve a couple of minor things. The location is perfect though, it is right next to a pedestrian street which leads down to the river and has many good shops and restaurants. It's also near the start of the Sound of Music Tour.
We were across the road from the main hotel, and we had a very large room, with quite a small bathroom. No big complaints, although it wasn't the most comfortable bed for me (my partner thought it was fine). They could improve the room a lot by having more lights, it's very dark, especially the bathroom! Also, the wifi signal is very weak, it hardly worked at all in the room.
The breakfast was really great, lots of variety and good quality. Also they offer a nice afternoon tea with cakes for guests. Staff on reception were very helpful and friendly!
I would recommend people to stay here, though perhaps the rooms in the main hotel are a bit better than ours.

Room Tip: Ask for one in main hotel, not across road.

The Wolf-Dietrich ticks our boxes - character, convenience, and true value for money. There's a quirky, comfortable flair to the shared areas ( a quick dip in the pool is a must!) and our rooms in the "residenz" were fantastic. They met the lengthy list of generous room size, pleasant decorative scheme, large flat screen TV, wifi (password simply offered, no additional charge); generous hanging spaces; shower/bath with good hot water and pressure; comfortable beds; thoughtful lighting; quiet location; and well heated. When you mix in a generous buffet breakfast, "drop in" afternoon tea (no charge), and excellent staff service, it's a very reasonably priced winner. You're about 7 minutes easy stroll (mainly down a cobbled street) to the old town. You're also on the right side of the river for the Mirabell Gardens, Mozart's residenz, and some lovely cafes and restaurants. All in all, we loved it.

We had originally booked for two nights but circumstances changed this to one night. The only negative was that even with four weeks notice of the change the hotel still insisted on charging us for two nights - but to be fair it was a non refundable deal we had booked. Overall it was exactly what we needed for a family of five - plenty of space, complimentary afternoon tea, pool for a quick dip, and delicious breakfast. Of note were the breakfast staff who could not have been more friendly and helpful - they even set up a table of 5 in another room so we could sit together (it was busy and only tables of 2 were available). Location is quite good just a short walk to old town. In terms of rooms we had room 55 which was at top of a windy staircase with one other room - it would be amazing if you were a couple of families who booked both rooms because at the bottom of the stairs is a big playroom and kitchen that it looks like you could lock off and give the kids a big rumpus room to themselves. Overall pretty good.

We stayed at the Residences over the new year's period for 4 nights. The location of the hotel is really good within walking distance to the old town but still located in a quiet part of town. Most of the reception staff is really nice and helpful with arrangements of day trips and so on. The hotel had warned us that our apartment was on the 4th floor and that no lift was available. The hotel staff did bring all our luggage all the way up and they expect to have a lift installed by July 2012 (may expect some noise from construction). The apartment itself is a bit dated and especially the bathroom is very small with a low ceiling. Overall a very pleasant stay with good value for money.

Room Tip: Rooms at the hotel itself are preferred above the one's in the Residence.

If you appreciate the amenities a proper four-star city hotel offers, this is the place! Well located yet quiet (except for some daytime work on installin g an elevator in the annex across the street) the Wlf Dietrich is worth every Euro (we paid E120 per night for a triple) The only MINOR annoyance was a toliet location blocking the bathroom door...ouch if you don't lock the door! Bigscreen TV offers DVD which they offer you no charge at the desk. Pool and sauna were superb, very rare for a city center hotel. The strudel and coffe between 2:30 and 4pm (approx. times) are an added bonus, as are the english language newspapers and magazines. The tall young bellhop gladly toted our suitcases up three flights (again the annex WILL have a lift by spring 2012!) but the three flights of stairs we travelled were a nice little exercise to work off some of the sumptous breakfast foods we enjoyed!

Room Tip: for Aircon and lift the annex will be prepared by spring 2012
