We tried this restaurant after trying to book e16 [tip book weeks ahead]. This is one of the oldest restaurants in Vienna and serves traditional fare. If you are vegan best avoid. I had the goose leg with dumplings (sweet) and my partner had the duck breast with croquettes. Big hearty meals, had a glass of wine. Bottles start at 40 euros plus. Not a cheap eat but standard compared to other restaurants in this scale. If you only go once it is worth the cost, if booking ask for the Mark Twain room Staff were attentive without being overbearing.

Another tip try to learn some basic German, this is most appreciated.

This was a recommendation from the hotel reception and was fantastic. There’s a wonderful history to this site and the food was scrumptious. Had a beef dish with potato salad, wonderful tasting gravy and crispy fried onions. Gorgeous red wine to round the meal off. I did try the raspberry schnapps but I was sorry to say that it only confirmed that I really don’t like schnapps. Great night out and they stay open a little later than a lot of other places.

Once again everything was excellent from the amazing staff to the mouth watering food!Like the last time I had Beef Tartare as a starter and added the Beef Carpaccio as I had heard only good things - it was delicious! As a main I had the roasted suckling pig leg - it was amazing! If in Vienna, I can only encourage you to book in advance and enjoy the dining experience!

Loved this place! The food is excellent and waiters are delightful. I can recommend the
suckling pig and the veal. Beautifully cooked and well presented. Don't miss the desserts, my husband and I shared the sachertorte absolutely delicious! A restaurant steeped in history with a wonderful atmosphere and food to match.

Not sure how they obtained their Certificate of Excellence last year. Perhaps the wiener schnitzel are really good and I have discovered that I don't like wiener schnitzel?

The service was brusque and unfriendly. Maybe they think too highly of themselves. The goose soup to start was well flavoured, but over salted. The schnitzel was very large, but under-seasoned and dry. I did not finish it. My wife's duck was alright... certainly nowhere near the best I have tasted and served with potato croquettes that could easily have come out of a packet.

We only chose this restaurant because ef16 had no tables available and it was close and it had a Certificate of Excellence.

Based upon the reviews, I would do yourselves a favour and book ef16 in advance, as we failed to do. Thought we would be OK early evening in November.

Certainly over-priced for the standard of the food. I was asked if I was paying by card or cash when I asked for the bill, which I hadn't decided. The counting out of the change when I paid by cash was one of the most peculiar things I have ever seen. Seems they were angling for a tip that hadn't been earned.
