Owner description: For centuries the Vienna Hofburg was the centre of the Habsburg empire. Today the palace houses three museums which afford historically authentic insights into the traditions and everyday life of the imperial court: The Imperial Apartments with their original furnishings and decoration, the Sisi Museum with its sensitive staging of the empress' life, and the Imperial Silver Collection which contains a comprehensive range of tableware and other utensils used at the imperial court.

This attraction is quite large and rambling. There are lots of museums here and in the museums quarter, but it would be expensive to visit them all, so I chose the armaments museum which contains far more than just weapons.

Huge display of silverware and crockery gives quite an insight into how they used to live, some beautiful pieces. The rooms are incredibly well preserved and have in depth explanations. Lots of people visiting but it didn't feel crowded. Well worth a visit!

The imperial apartments and the silver collection are well worth a trip.

The silver collection is stunning in its scale and decadence.

The apartments are very good for their uniqueness and for the fact they are untouched.

The sisi collection; I think you have to be Austrian to appreciate this. We skipped through it quickly.

This has so much history and beauty here. It is VERY crowded though. Plan for a few hours here and be prepared to be in big crowds.

The Imperial Palace is a series of buildings. Some have other government uses now, some are other museums. The palace tour shows rooms, how they lives, their dinner serving pieces, china, etc. Part of the tour includes the history of Franz Josef and wife. At first I wasn't that interested in it but after the tour read about them and became quite interested in them and the history of WWI.
