This pension is very clean and is in an extremely convenient location. All of the city-center sights are within walking distance, and the underground is within easy walking distance also. The old building has a real Viennese feel. The Klaus family (mother and son) are very nice and helpful. The breakfast is good, with excellent quality breads, marmalade, cheeses, etc. We had a large double room with bath that is very comfortable, although the street noise (late night bar patrons) on that side can be annoying if the temperature requires the windows to be open. With the windows closed, the noise goes away. The price is reasonable for a good place in the 1st District. All in all, this is a good choice in Vienna.

We found the twin room facing the street to be very hot and rather noisy at night. There is no air-conditioning and no fans. A bit expensive for what it is. The breakfast was just adequate and not much help from owner re getting around Vienna.

Really liked my stay in the pension. It's a good central location, nice old building - like living in the 19th century apartment building. Reasonably priced. Klaus is very very helpful and patient.

I just spent 9 nights at the Schweizer Pension and was thoroughly impressed with the location, the facilities and the management. The owner/managers are very nice, very helpful, and very friendly. The rooms are immaculate. I had a single room with a shared bath. The room is small, but had everything I needed and did not feel claustrophobic w/ very high ceiling and a big window that I could open. There was a sink in the room and a wardrobe, very comfortable bed w/ warm down duvet, and a small table w/ two chairs. I even spent one day in the room working (alas!), and it was quite comfortable. There is Wifi in the common area and it sometimes works in the rooms.

The breakfasts were very good. Great bread, cheese, meat (but I'm veggie, so skipped the meat), muesli, yogurt, hot tea or coffee, etc.

The location is excellent. Just three short city blocks from an underground and tram stop and an easy walk to Stephansplatz. One day I walked from the hotel all the way to the Belvedere. Vienna is a very walkable city and the public transit is excellent.

The only thing I can say anything negative about was that my room was at the end of the hallway adjacent to the owner's apartment, and they smoke. The smoke would sometimes filter into my room and the hallway. The odor wasn't really strong, but it someone were very sensitive, it would be uncomfortable. But, in Vienna, if your sensitive to smoke, you will have problems everywhere!

We stayed twice and had different rooms and levels of facilities, both quite acceptable. Our bikes were safely stored in the yard. The location is fantastic, a 10 minute walk to the centre, and only 5 to the metro. Shops and bars and the Danube nearby.
We got lots of help and advice from the owners, laundry, metro routes etc. They booked our transport on to Prague for us, and we just generally enjoyed their company.
no pension is everyone's cup of tea, especially those in big city centres, but we highly recommend Schweizer Pension.

I spent a month in Europe. Of all the hotels I stayed at Ms. Anita Klaus was the only one who greeted me every time by name. The room was tastefully decorated and spotless. The breakfasts were excellent.

If you've never stayed in a Pension, be aware that when you walk into the hallway in this large building, it is rather dark and dismal. Do not let that put you off because when you go up to the 4th floor, it's a very cozy place with several rooms and a breakfast room. The owner and her son are more than accomodating and pleasant. The breakfast was not large but certainly adequate. The rooms were very clean and the location was perfect for us. It was walking distance to everything we wanted to see and, when we wanted to venture further, the tram and underground (UBahn) were very easy to use and accessible.

The ice cream at Zanoni & Zanoni was delicious; the Sacher Torte at the Sacher Hotel was a treat; the weiner schnitzel is good; and the wurst is great. If you can, try to get tickets for the opera. It's worth being inside even if you can only get standing room only and see only part of an opera. And, if you're in the mood for something quirky and bizarre, visit the Hunterwasser Museum. Certainly doesn't fit into elegant Vienna but still fun to see.
