This interesting church stands between shops on one of Vienna’s main shopping streets so is very easy to miss, but is worth taking some time out to inspect no matter how busy your day may be.

walking by I saw a poster outside stating there would be a free concert celebrating the renovation of the church's 1727 organ. arrived on time, 95% seats filled by time of start, magnificent sound, guest from Vienna State Orchester playing a Baroque trumpet. acoustics fantastic. Marvellous interior, note Caryatids of Turkish prisoners astride memoral of one of the Knights Hospitallers who defended Vienna against the failed Ottoman siege, Armorials of Knights are on the walls

This small church can easily be found, since it is in the city centre, not far from the Stephanplatz. It has a big flag of the Order of St. John at the entrance.
Great symbol of just how important and powerful Order was during history.

We were really fascinated to discover the Maltese Church in Vienna as we have long established personal connections with the Maltese islands. We noticed the Maltese cross on the wall straight away. It is situated right in the heart of Vienna in Karntner Strasse so you can easily find it. It is a Roman Catholic Church of the Knights Hospitaller and the first church in this location dates to 1217. The building was re-built in the Baroque era. It contains various interesting artworks and the memorial for Jean Parisot de Valette, after whom Valetta is named. This is a 'must see' for anyone interested in the Knights of Malta.
