“Fun room, but can be noisy”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 April 2012

The room was great, very modern and fun! However the windows are only single glazed and we could hear a lot of traffic noise and people walking past which didn't make for the best night's sleep. Also our room and sheets smelt faintly of smoke which was pretty disgusting, but we tried to ignore it as much as possible. Location is OK, but expect at least a 10 minute walk to get anywhere like the harbour or the city is a bit further.

In a city known for high prices this accommodation is great value.

A short hop on a tram and you are basically anywhere. Plenty of food outlets and shops nearby for grocery items, bakery, etc.

Whilst the rooms are compact, they are functional. Best thing is they each have a washing machine which means for those traveling longer, a chance to clean clothes without having to spend time a laundromats.

Interestingly though, no toasters or microwave ovens....you can grill the toast but a bit hit and miss. If he had these 2 pieces of electrical kit, then it would be top knotch.

Villa Park is situated in a beautiful quiet residential area, close to the city center & public transport.
Our room was very well equiped with all you could imagine you'd need on a holiday. Nice kitchenette, new and delicious bathroom with washer/dryer, comfy beds and furniture.
We never met any staff, but the key-box system worked perfectly.

We were very impressed with the place, incredibly good value for money.

Only point to watch out for; there's a waterheater, so it's neccacary to plan you bathtime :)

the rooms are surprisingly small, but well organized.
the floor heating is usually off (or low) and the first thing u should do when you enter the room is set it on.
INTERNET was decent for Norway (but no way good for the local Romanian standard).
we haven`t seen any of the staff (you pick up the key from the box and drop it in another box).
kitchen is very small but ok. Has no spice, salt, oil or anything so you have to buy everything.
Good location to the center and airport. The streets in Oslo don`t get de-snowed so you will have a problem with the suitcases from the metro to the hotel, but it is only 200m or so.

We stayed here for three nights and enjoyed the location. We like to walk and we could go almost everywhere. The location is quiet but in the midst of it all. The room was ok, we didn;t use the upstairs part since this was half a floor and the stairs were very steep.
We never saw any of the staff, which we didn't really mind. There was no feel of connection or welcome feeling either, but we didn't mind. Once we had left my husband discovered he forgot his favorite pants. We aked Villa Park by email to send it to the next location and they could do that for 200NOK. We payed this, but there was a receipt for 30NOK included: they made money out of our problem. When we send an email we got a story on how far the drive is to the post office etc. The email was unfriendly and there are not customer oriented at all! We would not go back!

It's a cute place with bright rooms with handy kitchenettes, which is nice in expensive Norway. However, no one who works here is here while you are so if you need help with anything you'll have to go to the tourist info center. There are also some bizarre messages around the room about rules like if you don't hang up the hair dryer on it's hook, it will be considered missing and you will be charged $100. So, overall eccentric but nice.

We stayed at Villa Park for 2 nights and left with mixed feelings.

During the booking process, we corresponded with Roger and asked for a room with a balcony (room 208). He confirmed that room was available and requested payment in advance to finalize the booking (fine). Upon arrival, we let ourselves in using the codes provided during booking (easy). However, we were given room 202, which not only does not have a balcony it doesn't even have a window that opens "due to fire code". Instead the only fresh air the room gets is from a jail cell like vent below the window.

As noted in the previous reviews, there is no one onsite to address any issues and you have already paid (in other words, good luck...) We sent an email to Roger immediately and received the following reply, which I felt was somewhat condescending:

"We can never guarantee special studios to guests. Requests of a special apartment is something we try to fix as good as we can. 208 is out for a longer period and we had no choice than to change some rooms, all hotels works like this. Main thing is that it must be the same category as reserved, as you now have. Sorry for this."

This policy was not made clear upfront and the rooms are all different, so switching them up last minute (especially from balcony to no air at all) was frustrating.

On the positive side, the apartment building is in a great part of town, more residential and on the way to Vigeland/Frogner Park. It worked well for a triple and allowed us to eat meals in the unit. Close to the tram and an easy 15 min walk to the main tourist sites.

Buyer beware!
