This is a well-managed Scandic property in a great location in front of the main railway station with many experienced and helpful long-term members of staff. A few years ago it was refurbished to Scandic standards, with cheerfully decorated communal spaces and comfortable rooms.
There are no tea or coffee making facilities in standard rooms but you can buy beverages, snacks and fruit at reasonable prices from a self-service bar in the reception hall.
The high quality breakfast includes porridge, fresh fruits, salads & fresh vegetables, cold cuts & fish, fresh juices, smoothies and hot dishes. An evening buffet dinner is sometimes available for a bargain 195 kronas.
There are separate male and female saunas in the basement that are kept heated until late in the evening, an unusual and very welcome feature.
The hotel is in an ideal location for exploring the nearby pedestrianised Karl Johansgate that leads from the railway station to the Royal Palace; the Opera House, and the trendy Grønland neighbourhood.
The only thing that may be shocking to some is the presence of rough sleepers immediately outside the hotel, as well as members of the Roma community. However neither are in any way threatening or dangerous.More
