“A Taste of Heaven”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 October 2013

We experienced culinary heaven last night when we visited the Petradaki Taverna at kathikas.
Fantastic hospitality, cleanliness and finally fantastic food at an honest price served with a smile.
Keep this standard up and you will have one more converted diner to add to your list of regulars.

“A Great Sunday Lunch”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 October 2013

Our best dining experiences since our recent move to Cyprus from Crete. We visited at 12.00 noon on a Saturday. The owner told us they didn't open until 1.00pm, but allowed us in anyway. We had a small selection of starters which we loved. The bread and wine are homemade and delicious. We chose white wine which was fresh and crisp.

We decided to book for the Sunday Lunch buffet on the next day. She said she was full but said she would fit us in.

The Sunday buffet carvery-style lunch was spectacular with a wide range of tasty homemade salads and dips. The chef's generosity with the selection of roast meats was considerable, filling your plate with delicious tender beef, pork, lamb and chicken. You help yourself to fresh vegetables, roast potatoes and also Cypriot dishes.

Add to this their wine and some lovely desserts and it amounted to a great meal and terrific value for money. It was packed with happy ex-pat and Cypriot diners. Highly recommended!

“A REAL RESTAURANT”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 September 2013

It says a lot when one of the best tavernas in the area, Yiannis, recommends a rival and that's just what happened here (thanks Rennie). Although we have stayed in Kathikas several times before, Petradaki Tavern happens to be on a road that we very rarely travel, so we hadn't noticed it. Well we have now! My wife and I aren't typical in that, although we love Cyprus, we don't like much about Cyprus traditional food; mezze, dull salads and tough and gristly meat grilled to a cinder all leave us unimpressed. It saddens me that, however much I wish it were otherwise, romantic little tavernas out in the sticks rarely produce great food and, for that, you have to compromise the romance and go into the tourist traps of Paphos and Coral Bay. But, happily, there are exceptions and the small village of Kathikas has three; that's far more than its fair share! Yiannis is a brilliant place and our overall favourite in the area and The Farm Yard is excellent too. But this review is about Petradaki.

Just a few hundred metres from the crossroads at the bottom end of Kathikas, Petradaki just looks like another, fairly large, tavern with good car parking. But climb the steps to the first floor dining area (level from the car park) and you find a beautiful restaurant with widely spaced tables, good quality furnishings and fine tableware. Go in daylight and the views over the valley are stunning too.

Good as all of this is, it's the food that really impresses. The menu is relatively short but very impressive. On our visit, my wife had butterfly prawns which were pronounced excellent. I had lamb tavas which is a sort of lamb stew cooked with all sorts including tomato, courgette, cucumber, onion, several pulses and some unidentified vegetables. This tavas was just a bowlful of bursting flavours and was a delight to enjoy; nothing bland here.

Lots of the produce is grown on the premises and there is a winery in the cellar that delivers a lovely set of wines (but the white wasn't sufficiently chilled). Even the complimentary grapes and a plate of 'honey balls' at the end of the meal were quite exceptional (if these are the grapes from which the white wine is pressed, then I can understand the high quality) It is quite clear that this is much, much, more than a simple taverna and dining here is a real 'dining out' experience.

We went on a Thursday evening and, although lots of the clientele were Brits who either live in the village or have villas there, there were also enough Cypriots there to demonstrate in what high regard the locals hold this place.

Expecting to have to pay a premium for this quality of food and service, I was stunned at the paltry bill presented; I just don't know how they do it!

I still like Yiannis for an overall experience but nothing outside of the big towns can match the sheer food quality at Petradaki. Give it a try.

“A Deleightful food experience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 September 2013

Some friends who live in this region brought us here for an evening meal . They have been here a few times and recommended it as one of their favourites. There were a number of locals seated, an indication of a good food environment.
Menu choices were good and sensibly priced.
Two of our party opted for Moussaka which was a good sized portion and lived up to expectations. The pork chop was also a big size item . The accompanying salad was also excellent . House wine well above average, good value and well priced at €7 for a carafe. The In-house baked bread had a nice aroma about it.
Very friendly Staff, good service and great atmosphere
We finished of with a jelly dessert and melon pieces on the house.
As we arrived after dark, there was no chance to comment about the views which we were told are very nice during the day.
Overall good food and good value for money.

“Well worth a visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 September 2013

We called in here as the restaurant we normally use had "eat what you like for 10 Euro's" (not quite what we appreciate) and was quite full. So glad that we did call in because the food was excellent and their local produced wine was 1st class at 4 Euro half litre or 7 Euro full litre. We used this restaurant again later in the holiday and once again everything was excellent. A word or two of caution however, they do get very busy and it is used by locals (a very good sign) so you might have to phone in advance to reserve a table. Also if you have their mixed grill (13.50 Euro) do not have any starter, you will not need one. A real taste of Cypriot cooking. If in the area again we will be back.
