My wife and I decided to treat ourselves to a night away and a nice meal out at very short notice and ended up at the candlesticks. Generally in my experience you get two main types of hotels. There are the big chains who give you clean, modern contemporary accommodation with identical rooms with no character and hit and miss service. Then you get small individual establishments like the candlesticks that are full of flaws if you go looking but are full of character and good personal service.

As stated in previous reviews, the decor is well overdue for a major update but was spotlessly clean. Overall our stay was very pleasant with great service from Nelio and his staff. Our room was on the top floor and was comfy and well presented with a big bathroom. The only negatives were that it was a tad cold with no way to adjust the settings and it would have been good to have had a folder with information about the hotel services and local area which is usual in most hotels.

The restaurant was very atmospheric with candle lit tables (hence the name I assume) , fantastic food and great service. It was obvious that many of our fellow diners were regulars which speaks volumes.

Our cooked breakfast was very nice with good quality ingredients and again, good service.

Overall, we had a lovely time here and would not hesitate to return but probably just for a meal as we live fairly close.

Went here for meal with husband. Food and service was excellent, really cannot fault the menu choice and the food was marvellous. Only one comment is that the upstairs bar area is very cold with customers waiting for table in restaurant having to keep coats on so felt frozen until we went downstairs to eat. Staff commented that they were warm as they were rushing around busy, but many customers were very cold.Apart from this, charming.

We had friends over from the USA so where else to impress them within our charming town is to go for dinner at the Candlesticks. Pre dinner drinks in the George Hotel and the very short walk to the candlesticks. We waited upstairs ( perhaps a tad too long ) a party was on and a couple of staff had not turned up, but we had come here for the food so perused the menus. We ordered food and wine and were shown down in the cellar. Food was excellent, delicious pate, steak, fish and desserts all for a set price each. Service was good as was the ambience. Do you know what was the best bit of all, our American friends insisted on paying the bill.!!!!!!!!!

Great location, easy walk to Stamford over the river. Beautiful town - very stylish shops. Quiet location. Welcoming owner and staff. Full of character and history. Narrow stairs - it was originally 5 cottages. Cosy rooms, clean and comfortable. Big bathroom. Well stocked fridge for continental breakfast, and hot drinks. Good coffee. Very good cooked breakfast in restaurant. Restaurant very popular and very atmospheric. Would liked to have a meal, but had been to family party earller in day. Lovely weekend! Would go there again.

Stayed one night for a trip to Stamford to see a gig at the voodoo lounge.
Very pleased. Kind helpful owner . Stayed
Room 8 top floor.
We opted for cooked breakfast very good, with great coffee. Good service.
Just the ticket after a late night.
I would recommend. But beware their are stairs possible a bit tight for the less mobile.
There is a fridge in room with continental breakfast in. Good idea.
Thanks to the owner.
We would stop again if in town.
Thanks.
