Lovely Stay

Review of Weston Hotel
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 4 weeks ago
This was our first time at The Weston and it will not be our last. We were attending the Spa, so the location was ideal for us. Because we were only there the 1-night, I didn’t bother booking a sea view. What a lovely warm greeting when we arrived and what a lovely surprise to be told we had been given a free sea view upgrade, that was so kind of them. There was ample parking outside the hotel, and we were given a parking permit and another permit for an extra 3-hours after we checked out. Our room was lovely, if not a bit on the small side, as was the bathroom, but it was fine for us and very clean. There was a really good hospitality tray and kettle. The décor was really nice and wow the view from the window was great. It was actually nice to open the window and lay on the bed and see and hear the sea. My partner found the bed quite hard but it was OK for me. My only tiny complaint, and it certainly wasn’t the fault of the hotel, we could hear someone in the next room snoring very loudly and this went on all night. Considering I haven’t the best of hearing I could definitely hear this throughout the night. We had drinks in the bar after the concert at the Spa and added them to our bill. Breakfast was extremely organised and very nice. We both had the full English which was fresh and piping hot. The staff were lovely and helpful. Thank you so much for making our stay so nice. We have booked to stay there again in November and we are really looking forward to it. Unfortunately, for our February visit next year you are full otherwise we would have stayed there for a third time.
Date of stay: October 2024
Room Tip: The sea view room was lovely. We had Room 12.

Thank you ever so much for your kind and detailed review! We’re thrilled that your first stay with us was such a positive experience and that you found our location ideal for attending the Spa. It was our pleasure to surprise you with a sea view upgrade - those views really are something special, and we’re glad you enjoyed them too!

We appreciate your feedback about the room size, and while it worked well for your stay, we always strive to ensure our guests are comfortable.

Sorry to hear about the noisy neighbour next door - we understand how frustrating that can be, but we appreciate your understanding that this was beyond our control. It’s great to hear you had a relaxing time in our bar after your concert and that our full English breakfast hit the mark :)

Thank you for your kind words about our team - it means a lot to us! We're delighted to know you've already booked another stay with us in November, and we’re sorry we couldn’t accommodate your February visit. We look forward to welcoming you back very soon!

Warmest regards,
The Weston Hotel Team

we stayed here with friends this time, our room was clean and tidy, comfy bed, friendly staff and nice breakfast sat in the bay window, parking easy and stress free, we have stayed here before and enjoyed our visits. Upon departure I did however get the impression that a couple of the staff did think we had done a runner as they appeared near the entrance, but we had only gone to load the car with our luggage parked opposite the hotel. With us staying previously our details would be on their system, or maybe they should take full payment when guests are checking in.

We booked a one night stay a few weeks ago but had to change dates due to work commitments. A big thank you to Gill on reception, got all sorted for us so when we arrived, no problem on check in, thank you Gill ( hope you liked the flowers).
We have stayed here previously, hence why, with no dog in tow, we wanted somewhere we knew and enjoyed and Weston topped our list and we were not disappointed.
Lovely 2nd floor room overlooking Esplanade, very comfortable and just the ticket after an afternoon walking around Scarborough.
We only did breakfast but both my wife and I found it very nice with all local produce which was nice to see.
All in all, a brilliant stay and we will return if we can get a dog sitter :-)

Thank you so much for your lovely review! We're thrilled that Gill was able to help with your date change and that check-in was seamless— she absolutely loved the flowers, by the way! Our staff truly go above and beyond, and we're nothing without them. We're so proud of the team we have here at the Weston :)

It's fantastic to hear that, even without your dog this time, you returned to us and were once again pleased with your stay. We can’t wait to welcome you back again soon - fingers crossed for a dog sitter!

Warmest regards,
The Weston Hotel Team

This is a small medium quality old hotel, with a lovely view of Scarborough bay.
The staff are delightful, and it is worth making special mention of Daisy and Shelley in the restaurant, and Gill and Vanessa in reception - all so helpful. Although the board is only bed and breakfast, the option is there to have supper in the evenings (no lunch option), and the chefs are excellent.
Minor reservations: the ten steps up to the front door proved a bit of a struggle with the cases; all the breakfast is brought to you by the waitresses (my wife and I much prefer a buffet style help yourself for the cereal); the shower pressure could have been a bit better.

Thank you for your lovely review! We’re delighted that you had an enjoyable stay and that our team, especially Daisy, Shelley, Gill, and Vanessa, made a positive impact on your visit. We'll be sure to pass on your kind words to them!

We're glad you enjoyed the beautiful views of Scarborough's South Bay and it’s always a pleasure to hear when guests have enjoyed dinner in our restaurant, Cecil's.

As we are a listed Victorian building, we're unfortunately unable to make changes to the steps at the front entrance. However, we do have an alternative option for guests who find the twelve steps a bit steep. On the right-hand side of the hotel, there are five shallower steps that lead down to the basement level, where you'll find a lift with access to all floors. We hope this can make things a little easier for those who might struggle with the main entrance.

We really appreciate your feedback regarding shower pressure and will take it into consideration to keep improving our guests' experience. We’d love to welcome you back to the Weston Hotel soon!

Best regards,
The Weston Hotel Team

Reading the last review made me rather sad and slightly angry on behalf of the hotel. We stayed in the same room which the reviewer was so disgruntled about but we found the owners and all the staff wonderfully engaging and helpful throughout our stay.
Our request for an early evening meal, so that we could attend a performance at the Stephen Joseph Theatre, was accommodated and enabled us to enjoy the whole evening, celebrating our wedding anniversary. Both breakfasts and evening meals were excellent quality and all served with care and attention.
We were very happy with the room which provides superb views of the South Bay and even provides high level chairs so that you can sit at the window and enjoy the views, including a spectacular sunrise on our last day.
We certainly enjoyed our stay at the Weston and hope to be able to stay again in the near future.

We’re glad we could accommodate your request for an early evening meal and that it allowed you to fully enjoy your evening at the Stephen Joseph Theatre. It’s wonderful to hear that both the breakfasts and evening meals met your expectations, and that the service added to your experience.

The views of South Bay are something special, and we're so happy you enjoyed them - especially catching that spectacular sunrise! We’re delighted that you found the room comfortable and enjoyed those little touches.

On this weekend stay the only good aspect at the Weston was the breakfast which was good and the serving staff who were excellent, attentive, friendly and efficient.
However when we complained about the room the unsympathetic lady owner of the hotel finally suggested that we leave the hotel and never come back ( that suited us ) ) but she did ring the Crown Spa Hotel further down the Esplanade and told us that they had vacant rooms. She also agreed not to charge us for that night's stay. It was a very disappointing and dismal room for a very high price. Apparently they did leave a message on my mobile offering us a better room but we didn't get the message as we were in the Spa at a Jazz festival during the day where there is no mobile signal.
When checking out on the Monday at the Crown Spa Hotel we met an older couple of very nice ladies in the queue, one was 82 years old and infirm, She had apparently asked for assistance in the lift at the Weston. This was flatly refused and some member of staff accused the couple of being the sort of people who would leave the hotel without paying and then demanded payment when payment was only due on departure. Subsequently they were asked to leave the hotel which is why like us they ended up at the Crown Spa. How insulting and hurtful is that?

Our room at the Weston was gloomy with one smallish window with a very high sill. The wall behind the bed had obviously been redecorated but the rest of the furniture was careworn dark wood. There was only a small bulb in the ceiling and two bedside lights. The top of the main drawer unit on the opposite wall contained a TV ( which obscured a large part of the mirror) and tea making facilities so there wasn't much room for anything else. There was also an old worn armchair in a very dark alcove. The bathroom and wardrobe door couldn't be opened at the same time and the shower cubicle was so very small we could only wash our hair in there. A shower gel dispenser and a small circle of soap was all that was on offer. When we complained we were accused of insulting the room - now that's a first!

Dear Mr. Wilson,

Thank you for sharing your feedback.

While we appreciate your kind words regarding our breakfast service and the attentiveness of our staff, we feel it is necessary to clarify the circumstances surrounding your departure from the hotel.

Firstly, it’s important to note that your departure was not voluntary. We made the decision to ask you to leave due to the aggressive manner in which you expressed dissatisfaction at reception. Your repeated shouting of "shoddy" and other confrontational remarks caused significant distress to our staff and alarmed several guests, who also commented on your intimidating behaviour, particularly towards our female receptionists.

We regret that the room you booked did not meet your expectations. You had expressed similar concerns during a previous stay, and we were able to offer an upgrade at that time. Unfortunately, as explained upon your arrival, we were fully booked this year. When a Bay Seaview Room became available, we promptly emailed you, but unfortunately, we did not receive a response.

Additionally, your account of an alleged incident involving an elderly couple at the hotel is entirely inaccurate but we would never discuss other guests with you or anyone else. It is disappointing that this was included in your review, as it misrepresents both our staff and our approach to guest service.

We arranged alternative accommodation for you at the Crown Spa Hotel and waived the charge for your stay to ensure a resolution, as our goal is for all guests to enjoy their time with us.

We hope this clarifies the situation, and we wish you well in your future travels.

Kind regards,
Stephanie Allen
