“Royal Dunkeld”
Reviewed 2 April 2012

We spent the weekend at the Royal Dunkeld. The hotel is old and the decor is a bit tired, some of the rooms are small but the staff and the food more than make up for this. Very reasonably priced the three course dinner in the restaurant was superb. The seabass on Saturday night was as good as I have ever tasted. The staff were exceptionally helpful and the hotel can be proud of them. Dunkeld is a lovely area with loads to see and do and the Royal Dunkeld well worth staying in.

All staff were extremely welcoming, friendly and efficient, nothing is too much trouble! Dinner in the restaurant was so good, wonderful food in very pleasant surroundings. Very comfortable bed in a large well laid out room. Spent a most enjoyable break here and would not hesitate to recommend to friends and look forward to returning! Excellent value for money!

We have stayed here a few times now.
It is one of the friendliest hotels I have ever stayed at.
Neil the owner is one of the nicest people i have met. He works so hard to make his establishment a success.
The staff are so helpful and actually want you to enjoy your stay with them.
whether you are having a meal in the bar or eating in the restaurant, the food is first class. The hotel rooms are clean and warm.
The restaurant is beautifully laid out, take time to look at the wood carvings, done by a chainsaw so i'm told !! fantastic.
You don't really get a good idea of the size of the hotel until you go inside.
Me and my wife have stayed at nearly all of the hotels in Dunkeld on our trips, some are cheap, dirty and cold, some are very expensive with very poor food and no character, The Royal Dunkeld Hotel is none of these.
so If you are in the area or visiting Dunkeld, my recommendation is to give this hotel a try, i'm sure you won't be disappointed.

Four friends and I stayed two nights recently over a weekend. The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel bistro food was quite good and reasonably priced - I recommend the smoked venison salad starter. Cooked breakfast was good, although I would have liked to see some Scottish Haggis on it. Rooms were clean and well equipped - although being an old and charming building, the floor boards did creak. If you are a light sleeper - consider ear-plugs. Room rates were reasonable. As always, the acid test is would I stay here again - and the answer is YES definitely. I liked the hotel very much - It was just right balance of cost, facilities, food and friendliness of staff.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back - away from the main road.

We usually stay elsewhere in Dunkeld however the last couple of times we have chosen to stay here after calling in one evening for a quick drink after a days fishing and finding the hospitality outstanding and the hotel itself far bigger and better than it looks from outside. The bar is clean and tidy with a great atmosphere, good beer, good food and a very warm welcome for locals and visitors alike. Neil the owner is so enthusiastic about making your stay as comfortable and as nice as possible.
You need to go into the hotel side to actually appreciate the size and splendour of the place.
Amongst some of the more notable guests , in addition to HM Queen Victoria were:
in 1855 Maharajah Dalup Singh,
in 1856 Lord and lady Elcho,
in 1857 Duke and Duchess of Leeds.
We were made to feel so welcome and nothing was too much trouble. The bedrooms are to a good standard and the rates are very reasonable.
We will definitely be staying here again.

Room Tip: My husband is allergic to dogs and feathers and this does influence where we stay. The hotel is a d...

Enjoyed a one night stay on Saturday 18th of February, felt very welcome, nice relaxed atmosphere, food was very good, and reasonable. Had to shelter in the bar as it was snowing heavily, we enjoyed the company and the jukebox too!
Hotel was clean and comfortable.

Room Tip: Our room was on the third floor, this suited us, but maybe not so good for anyone who has any proble...

we stayed there for one night Saturday 7th Jan.We originally stopped for lunch then decided to stay for the night. The cost of a family room was very reasonable and my request to see the rooms beforehand was met by offering me two sets of keys and allowing me to choose. So we were off to a good start. The family room was a good size with a double and a single bed with on suite. The bathroom was a decent size with a shower cubicle. The room was clean well positioned overlooking the courtyard. It would have been nicer with a bigger more modern TV but that would be my only negative comment.
We stayed for the evening meal, food and service were excellent staff were very helpful and friendly.I had the Crab cakes for my starter which i would recomend, and the jumbo Haddock cooked to perfection for my main course.
I would recomend this hotel as being great value, family friendly and my daughter is already asking me to book again soon.

Room Tip: family room 210
