We stayed at Rathellen House for two nights during our tour of Ireland, but Eamonn and Stella's hospitality began even before our arrival, with long emails of advice about restaurants and what to see in the area. Once we arrived, Eamonn took such good care of us, cooking wonderful breakfasts and taking time to chat. The rooms were spotless, the beds amazingly comfortable. All in all, a wonderful retreat in a beautiful, historic part of Ireland.

Our group of three couples rented the entire house as a self-catering home. It was spectacular! It was elegant, yet very comfortable. The beds were divine, the bathrooms well appointed, and the kitchen was a chef’s dream! Eamonn is a Ballymaloe trained chef. We asked him prepare a meal for us the last night we were there and it was fabulous! I would encourage anyone staying at Rathellen House to avail themselves of this option…well worth it!
We also found the location to be ideal for our exploration of that area of Ireland. Being a short drive off the expressway it was easy to get to Cork, the Blarney Castle, Cobh, Waterford, Cashel, Cahir, Limerick, Shannon, and all parts in between! It couldn’t have been more convenient for the sight seeing we did during the five days we were there.
Eamonn and Stella are truly gracious and wonderful hosts with a first class operation. I give Rathellen house five stars and would recommend it to anyone traveling to Ireland.
Our party of 14 felt instantly at home - the house is decorated / furnished in an elegant yet laid-back style that is immediately welcoming!! The bedrooms are luxurious (I couldnt drag my family out of the beds!!)
We decided on the self-catering option which gave us the freedom to choose our own meal times etc - but our hosts Stella and Eamonn were immediately on hand to help if we needed anything.
We had family members travel in from Belfast, Dubai and Tehran - all agreed it was well worth the trip. We searched extensively online to find a rental home in Ireland - Im sure you can find similiar spectacular homes but you will not find a similiar price. Any quotes we received for comparable homes were substantially more expensive.
If you want to visit the south of Ireland, have a fantastic 'base' that gives you the freedom to travel to scenic and historical Irish towns / villages then Rathellan House is the place for you!!
I would recommend it to anyone! Highly recommended is 'Nellies Pub' down down in the village - great people, great Guinness!!
For smaller parties the small cottage on the property would be ideal!!

What a warm welcome we received when arriving at Rathellen House, the rooms were first class and spotlessly clean, the food was just fab, not good for those on diets because you just want to eat eat and eat. Everything was home made and to a very high standard. I would recommend this House if you like the good things is life......
Eamonn and Stella are the most wonderful hosts - they have a beautiful home which is very welcoming and comfortable. Top class accommodation and the breakfast is the BEST!! This trip was a girlie weekend with some work colleagues, but I'll definately be back to Rathellen with my family. The surrounding area has lots of walks, history and shopping - something for everyone and all enjoyed from an AB FAB base at Rathellen. Top Marks!
Rathellen House meets and exceeds your expectations for country accommodations! Live like gentry with Eamonn and Stella Long as your hosts and you will want to come back again and again.
The Longs have built a modern 6 bedroom (all en-suite) home that can be utilized as a bed-and-breakfast or can be rented in its entirety for self-catering services. My family of 11 spanning 3 generations rented the home for a week on a self-catering basis. It was the best decision we made! The Longs went out of their way to make us feel at home, adding special and personal touches along the way.
When booking an accommodation, some of the key points I look at are: location, cleanliness, square footage, value, and friendliness of staff. Rathellen House receives an A+ on all of these! Rathellen House met all of our needs, and then some! For starters, the kitchen is fit for any professional chef. Everything you need is there, including two fridges. Every bedroom is spacious with warm and comfortable beds, custom shades/drapes, and a well appointed bathroom with modern fixtures. No need to bring a hair dryer...there is one in every room! And men with electric shavers, there is even a plug for that in the bathroom, and you don't have to use the converter for US to UK...it was done for you! Body wash, shampoo, and hand soap are also included in each bathroom alongside the large bright white towels. There is enough storage in each room for you to unpack your bags for the week and make Rathellen House your temporary home.
Traveling with a family of 11 can many times be a tight squeeze, but our group had plenty of room to spread out as the kitchen, dining room, drawing room, and library as they are all spacious rooms on the ground floor. The yard/garden is also quite spacious. The four year olds of our group had plenty of outdoor space to run around and play with the Long's black lab, Murphy. The adjacent building also houses a laundry room where you can do a load of laundry. So convenient!
There is so much to do and see nearby the home. Tipperary town has has ample grocery choices as well as some local pubs. Cahir is a nice town with great places to eat as well as a castle to visit and the Swiss cottage. The Rock of Cashel is less than a half hours drive. Go walking in the Glen of Aherlow and take in the beautiful country views with surrounding Galtee mountains. The larger town of Clonmel is less than a half hours drive as well. Ther is plenty of shopping here as well as sightseeing.
Just contact the Longs for any question you may have about booking. They are so good about responding in a timely fashion. You can't go wrong with this house. If you are staying for one night or two weeks, you will not be disappointed.
I cannot recommend this guesthouse more. This country house has modern comforts combined with the feel of an orginal georgian home (although there will be no wind whistling through any windows!).. ..the bathroom is equipped with a fantastic powershower and bed was so comfy.. the house was warm and comfortable and the living areas were furnished beautifully. Breakfast was delicious, and was even given a choice of newspapers! I think what made the stay all the more sweet was that I paid just 60eur for a single room.. I was there for a wedding at Kilshane and other "solo travellers" stayed at Kilshane where they paid €110 (payable in advance!) and the comfort levels did not come close from what I could gather.
If you interested in walking/hiking, beautiful hills are just minutes away .. I did not know there was such lush rolling hills in this part of the world.. I think it might be renowned for hiking as I saw some brochures at Rathellen house.
