Review of The Highdown
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Aug 26, 2024via mobile
Attended for a family wedding with two disabled relatives. The hotel has steps so not ideal but staff ensured had ground floor rooms, walk in showers and we managed. Staff are helpful and answered all queries. The breakfast service was rather slow the weekend we were there but otherwise perfect, food was great. Rooms spacious with lovely bed, bathroom shower gel etc and a fan if required although windows opened.
Disabled toilet in the bar area and a coffee shop which I didn't get chance to try. The gardens are literally around the corner and a popular tourist attraction. The hotel has a leaflet with a short 2 mile walk into the Down which was a great way to get an appetite for breakfast.
The only weird thing was the billing ..received separate bills for each room all with totally different rates on, but the overall bill was as expected so we paid!
Special thanks to Daisy who produced a cigarette lighter and a pair of scissors within seconds of my request on the wedding morning!

I have stayed at the Highdown for over 2 years now, whilst away for business, this is the best hotel in Sussex.
The welcome is impeccable the team can never do enough for me, they also add their own unique touches to their hospitality.
The bedrooms are fabulous and super clean, beds and pillows are so comfortable.
I always get a warm welcome at breakfast and I can never say no to their free range eggs with warm croissants and fresh fruits, there really is something for everyone in this hotel.
They are a fantastic team and I will always be grateful for making me feel so welcome whilst staying away from home.
SO THANK YOU :) KATIE

The hotel is conveniently situated behind the pub and restaurant, lovely building, tea and coffee and the elusive biscuits! The room had a great shower, lovely and clean bathroom. Breakfast was good, too.

However, there were water stains in the walls which made it appear like it had a damp issue. And the walls were so thin, we could hear our neighbours TV into the wee hours. With reception closing at 10, there’s nowhere to go and complain. So we had a dreadful night’s sleep.

We booked all the rooms (13) for our daughter’s wedding at Cissbury Barns. Having both sides of family able to stay together in such a beautiful hotel was fantastic. The team were so helpful in organizing before hand. We had two meals at the restaurant and the food, drinks and service were excellent. The whole party said what a great team and venue it was.

Room tip: Build up your appetite for the fab breakfasts. Huge choice - all of which were delicious.

We stayed in a classic double room. The room was well maintained and had what you need for a B&B stay. The bathroom had a large shower but no bath. We preffer showers to baths but some pople may not. The bed was comfy and the housekeeping staff were helpfull and friendly. The hotel is just behind the pub and you need to check in at the bar. We would use this hotel again if we were in the area.

very pleasant and good food freshly made, we had sandwiches and quiche which we enjoyed and the fresh tea in a pot was so nice in the early afternoon.
The restaurant is well place near Highdown gardens. Go to the gardens first then enjoy this cafe nearby
