Awful restaurant

1.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Oct 30, 2022
Awful experience and won't be returning. Left waiting over 90 minutes for food, after complaining multiple times was told the order was lost. Compensation offered: "a couple of free juices". Pathetic excuse of a restaurant

Booked a couple of weeks ago not the first time we have stayed at one of the Wetherspoon chains but this was the first visit to Dereham. Parking did present a problem but soon found a free car park about a 5 min walk from the hotel. The hotel itself is reception less so you need to call for attention. We were checked in by a lovely lady who explained everything to us including how to use the aircon. Room was lovely and clean with windows to the side of the hotel comfortable bed and bedding. Went down stairs for the usual good value drink and dinner then retired to watch something on TV and sleep, slept right through to 8.30am... Great stay everything very clean OK the bathroom could do with an update, shower over bath rather than the walk in shower that seems to be a feature of Wetherspoon hotels now but really nothing to complain about will defo stay again. Love the fact that the hospitality tray was complete with water, biscuits and hot chocolate. Free water chilled from behind the bar for hotel guests as well.

Booked many times at Weatherspoons usually great value, and receptionist to discuss any issues ,not at Romany Rye.
Our toilet wouldn’t flush reported to cleaner ( no one else to talk to,by the way she was lovely)but not sorted ,Thursday no water at all ,we had to go to a Supermarket to have toilet and to freshen up,during the day I phoned to ask if water was working and to discuss the issue of getting up and going to supermarket etc ,and was offered a free breakfast,I refused ,nothing else offered, not good from our point for the massive inconvenience.
Bar staff excellent food reasonably good.

We stayed over Saturday and Sunday evening, we were on the second floor at the front and were worried about noise, this was not an issue. The room as comfortable and fiercely air conditioned thankfully as temperatures were in the religion of 30 Celcius even overnight. The towels were great and the bed comfortable. The only reason they only receive 3 is the internet connectivity. The internet kept dropping out and was then restored a few minutes later.we were on the top floor and probably as far away as possible from the source of the internet - this is not the first time we have encountered this problem with Wetherspoon hotels. This problem needs to be rectified if we are to stay again. (The staff were really helpful but unable to solve the problem).

A Wetherspoons hotel would not normally feature in my choices but for various reasons this is where I needed to stay. On arrival I found there was no real parking facility and there is fortunately a free council car park a few hundred metres away, not entirely convenient if you need regular access to your car. Then there is no reception though in practice this not prove to be too much of a problem.

Our room was larger than I expected, clean and generally in good order. Only one chair if you don't want to sit on the bed. A lovely picture from a pupil at a local school was on the wall. The bathroom was OK, again clean. The delight was the towels, large and soft - better than many much more expensive hotels.

My big fear was noise. There is a large bar downstairs open until 1am. This not prove to be an issue. However, just outside our window was an extractor fan outlet which was on 24hrs a day, meaning windows had to be shut at night to shut out the noise. Air conditioning is installed but that also makes noise at night. My colleague with a room on the road side of the hotel was more disturbed by late night revelry.

We only ate breakfast. Cheap and just about OK. Food was only lukewarm on arrival at the table. Service generally good.

In summary I need not have been so concerned but not an experience I would repeat ifa better alternative was available.

Room tip: Ask for a room away from the road side and not 111

We went for breakfast today and it was super. This is a spacious Spoons with plenty of different areas to sit in and a reasonably sized garden area.

At 9am it was quiet and our order came promptly. It was well presented and nicely cooked, and the staff were friendly and helpful. We had our refill coffees in the garden and were set up for the day.
